We’re seeking an individual with an ARA accredited qualification in archives management, or equivalent experience, to oversee the continued management of the Brass Bands Archive. This part‑time, fixed‑term role is based primarily at Heritage Quay, the University of Huddersfield’s home of the Archive, and is ideal for someone looking for a contribution to the heritage sector.
The salary for this role is £30,322 pro‑rate (£18,193) and the position is part‑time, fixed‑term for 21 hours per week (0.6 FTE) from January to December 2026.
Responsibilities
* Arrange, appraise, describe and catalogue physical and digital archive collections to international standards.
* Carry out preservation activities, including cleaning and re‑boxing.
* Develop expert collections knowledge in designated and wider subject areas to enhance catalogue entries, satisfy in‑depth enquiries and provide guidance on sources.
* Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications team to promote and publicise the archive.
* Instruct and supervise volunteers in research, digitisation and repackaging of material.
* Process, appraise and secure new donations to the archive, identifying potential future projects or stories to share.
* Answer and reply to public enquiries about the collection.
* Perform any other duties pertinent to the role.
Essential Requirements
* ARA accredited qualification in archives management, or equivalent experience.
* Working or volunteering experience in an archives or records management service.
* Experience undertaking enquiry work.
* Experience cataloguing to international standards.
* Experience in IT and database use.
* Experience assisting the digitisation of archival materials and managing associated metadata.
* A desire to increase engagement with heritage collections.
* Physical ability to move moderate weights, work at height and access under‑eaves storage.
* Commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
* Ability to travel between working sites as required (by public transport).
Desirable Requirements
* Experience of heritage outreach activities.
* Experience supervising volunteers or staff, and delivering relevant training.
