A welcoming primary school based in Bedford is recruiting a motivated Year 1 Teacher to join the team from January 2026. The successful Year 1 Teacher will deliver a structured phonics programme, plan progressive Year 1 lessons that develop early reading, writing and number, and lead small-group practice to secure rapid progress. The Year 1 Teacher will follow clear medium-term plans, deliver targeted guided-reading and phonics sessions, and work closely with teaching assistants to scaffold learning for all pupils. This Year 1 Teacher will contribute to assessment cycles, moderate outcomes with colleagues and engage parents in supporting early learning. Responsibilities
* Plan and deliver sequenced Year 1 lessons that build phonics, early reading and number skills.
* Run targeted small-group practice and guided-reading sessions to accelerate Year 1 progress.
* Use assessment to set next steps, adapt provision and report attainment for Year 1 pupils.
* Work collaboratively with TAs to prepare resources and scaffold tasks across Year 1.
* Communicate effectively with families, attend review meetings and contribute to Year 1 moderation across Bedford.
Person specification
* Qualified teacher with recent Year 1 or KS1 experience and clear evidence of impact.
* Strong phonics knowledge, assessment practice and calm, effective classroom routines suitable for Year 1.
* Organised, reflective and committed to working in the Bedford school community.
* Available to start January 2026 and attend induction and handover sessions prior to January 2026.
