Co-ordinate designated study programme delivery activities for the College, including delivery of high quality teaching, responsibility for day to day operational issues, exams and timetabling, ensuring a consistent approach is maintained across both sites if required. Inspire and motivate students through outstanding teaching and learning that stretches and challenges students to be the best they can be.
Lecturers should be passionate about their area of teaching and enthusiastic about developing students' English, Maths, and other employability skills. All of this will be underpinned by regular target setting and progress monitoring to ensure successful outcomes for all students.
Main Responsibilities and Duties:
The following outlines the main priorities as directed by senior management and is not exhaustive:
1. Deliver high-quality teaching according to College standards and external validating bodies, including preparing materials, schemes of work, and lesson plans, developing curricula, conducting quality assurance, assessing student work, monitoring progress, and reporting outcomes while maintaining statutory responsibilities such as safeguarding and health and safety.
2. Manage daily course operations including communication, problem-solving, timetable adjustments, arranging cover, coordinating work experience and enrichment activities, liaising with departments, and ensuring compliance across sites.
3. Assist with recruitment and enrolment procedures, ensuring students are registered correctly and participate in induction programs.
4. Hold regular meetings with students to set and review SMART targets, support UCAS applications, and address pastoral needs, liaising with college services as needed.
5. Monitor attendance and results, coordinate performance monitoring, and develop action plans to improve retention and achievement.
6. Support English and Maths provision through in-class and one-to-one support, monitoring attendance and student progress.
7. Attend and contribute to meetings, including staff, parent evenings, and external events, and coordinate parent consultation meetings.
8. Collaborate with colleagues on course development, attend CPD events, participate in peer observations, and mentor new lecturers.
9. Assist with departmental administration, including register marking, reporting, and updating the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).
10. Participate in college committees and quality assurance activities.
For lecturers on SPS points 5–8, additional responsibilities include internal verification, moderation, monitoring SAR action plans, resource coordination, supporting curriculum and quality issues, completing UCAS references, and liaising with higher education institutions.
