Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of children with communication and interaction needs? Do you have the skills, dedication, and patience to support pupils with Special Educational Needs/Disabilities in reaching their full potential?

Westfield Junior School is a welcoming and inclusive school with a strong community ethos. We are proud to host a Designated Specialist Provision (DSP) for pupils with communication and interaction needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). We are seeking to appoint a committed and experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our provision and help deliver high-quality support and education to our pupils.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, implement, and lead a daily small-group nurture provision within the Designated Specialist Provision (DSP), ensuring it supports pupils’ social, emotional, and educational development in alignment with the school’s inclusive practices and SEND framework.

• Deliver tailored support to individual pupils and small groups within our DSP, under the guidance of the Class Teachers and SENCo.

• Plan and deliver structured interventions and learning activities, including leading sessions independently where required.

• Support the implementation and review of EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan) targets.

• Foster a positive, nurturing environment that supports pupils’ social, emotional and academic development.

• Work closely with teachers, parents, and external professionals to ensure that each child’s needs are fully met.

• Promote inclusive practices and facilitate smooth transitions between the DSP and mainstream classes when appropriate.

The successful candidate will:

• Hold HLTA status or an equivalent relevant qualification.

• Have substantial experience working with children with communication and interaction difficulties, particularly those with ASD.

• Demonstrate a calm, flexible, and resilient approach to supporting behaviour and emotional regulation.

• Demonstrate a thorough and comprehensive understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Framework and Key Stage 1 curriculum.

• Be an excellent communicator and team player.

• Be committed to inclusion, safeguarding, and the wellbeing of every child.

• Be enthusiastic about ongoing professional learning and development.
