Locum Consultant Histopathologist – Cardiothoracic Pathology

Applications are invited for the full‑time post of Locum Consultant Histopathologist with an interest in Cardiothoracic Pathology. This is an exciting and challenging opportunity to join a small team delivering tertiary care services with the Essex Cardiothoracic Centre (CTC).
Main duties of the job
The Cardiothoracic Pathologists at the Essex Cardiothoracic Centre will provide specialised assistance to the Regional Trusts (Southend Hospital, Mid Essex Hospital and Colchester) and participate in their multidisciplinary teams (MDTs).
Job responsibilities
The CTC Histopathology department supplies the local catchment area with comprehensive tertiary diagnostic services. In this role you will:
* Conduct histopathology examinations of cardiac and respiratory specimens
* Interpret and report on cardiothoracic pathology findings in a timely manner
* Collaborate with cardiothoracic surgeons and other specialists on patient cases
* Support quality assurance and audit activities within the department
* Contribute to clinical research and national/international trials where appropriate
Person Specification
Qualifications
* MBBS or equivalent
* Clinical training in cellular pathology
Experience
* Experience working within the NHS, with an understanding of NHS values
* Previous experience in Cardiothoracic Pathology as a consultant or junior consultant
* Experience in trust management and team development
* Significant experience in Cardiothoracic pathology

Salary: £109,725 to £145,478 a year (pro rata for part time)
