Position Title: BTEC Vocational Tutor (KS4 – Accredited Pathways)
Location: Hillingdon, AP Unit
Contract Duration: Fixed-Term 12 Months
Hours: 5 Hours per Day, 5 Days per Week (Term-Time, 39 Weeks)
Day Rate: £100–£120 per day, depending on experience
Reports to: AP Manager

Overview

LMP Action Alternative Provision (AP) is a nationally respected provider of specialist education for students who have been excluded or are at risk of exclusion. We create inclusive, nurturing environments where young people can re-engage with learning and build the skills, qualifications, and confidence they need to succeed in life.

Our KS4 BTEC Vocational Programme offers five accredited pathways for Year 10 and 11 students who need an alternative to mainstream education. Delivered in small groups with a strong emphasis on pastoral support and employability, students work toward a BTEC Level 1 Introductory Certificate in one of the following subject areas:

Sport
Business
Public Services
WorkSkills
Personal Growth and Wellbeing
The programme blends qualification delivery with daily coaching, 1-1 and group SEMH support, careers and life skills education, and enrichment opportunities. Guest speakers from relevant sectors and regular parental engagement form key parts of our commitment to holistic development.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver accredited BTEC Level 1 Introductory qualifications in one or more of the programme’s vocational pathways.
Plan and deliver engaging lessons in small group settings, adapting content and delivery for a range of abilities and needs.
Provide daily coaching and mentoring, promoting confidence, emotional regulation, and a growth mindset.
Deliver and support 1-1 and group SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) interventions, creating a safe and inclusive classroom.
Support the development of careers education, employability, and essential life skills as part of the core offer.
Facilitate enrichment activities and community-based learning to extend student experiences beyond the classroom.
Liaise with guest contributors and industry professionals to deliver talks, workshops, and activities aligned with vocational pathways.
Maintain accurate records, including weekly progress snapshots, attendance logs, and full termly progress reports.
Engage positively with parents/carers, including at open days, progress updates, and regular communications.
Work collaboratively with the wider LMP AP team to ensure student progress, safeguarding, and well-being.

Adaptability: Flexibility to meet the diverse and complex needs of KS4 students.
Team Player: A collaborative and proactive approach to working across education, pastoral, and enrichment teams.
Resilience and Emotional Intelligence: Capacity to manage challenges with patience, understanding, and professionalism.
Organisational Skills: Strong planning, record-keeping, and reporting capability.

Desired Skills & Qualifications

Recognised Teaching or Training Qualification (e.g. PTLLS, AET, PGCE, or equivalent) – essential.
Experience Delivering BTEC Qualifications – ideally Level 1 or similar vocational content to alternative provision or SEND learners.
SEMH Awareness: Training or experience in trauma-informed practice or SEMH support.
Industry Knowledge: Subject knowledge and practical understanding in at least one of the vocational areas.
Safeguarding and First Aid training – current or willing to complete.
Digital Literacy: Competence in using education platforms and digital tools for planning and reporting.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
