Senior Mechanical Design Engineer - Building Services. Birmingham (Hybrid Working). Full-Time. Competitive Salary + Benefits.
Responsibilities
* Lead mechanical design for a variety of projects including HVAC systems, heating, cooling, ventilation, and domestic water services
* Prepare detailed calculations, specifications, reports, and design drawings
* Manage project deliverables from concept through to construction and commissioning phases
* Coordinate and collaborate with electrical, sustainability, and other engineering disciplines to deliver fully integrated MEP solutions
* Mentor and develop junior engineers and technical staff
* Engage directly with clients, architects, contractors, and other stakeholders to provide expert advice and ensure design quality
* Maintain up-to-date knowledge of UK building regulations, industry standards, and emerging technologies
* Contribute to business development activities and help strengthen client relationships
* Promote sustainability and low-carbon solutions within mechanical design projects
Candidate Requirements
* Degree-qualified in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering (BEng, MEng or equivalent)
* Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards chartership (IMechE or CIBSE)
* Minimum 6+ years' experience in mechanical building services design within a consultancy environment
* Strong knowledge of UK building regulations, CIBSE guides, and sustainability standards
* Proven experience in HVAC, chilled water, heating, ventilation, and controls design
* Proficient with mechanical design software such as Hevacomp, IES, AutoCAD, Revit, or similar tools
* Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills
* Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams and lead technical discussions
