Research assistant in molecular & cellular immunology

Oxford
Research assistant
Posted: 27 November
Offer description

We are seeking to appoint a Research Assistant to join the Molecular Immunology group led by Prof Omer Dushek and Prof Anton van der Merwe at the Sir William Dunn School of Pathology, University of Oxford. We study how important white blood cells called T cells control immune responses. These responses can be helpful when directed towards infections and cancers but can also be unhelpful leading to autoimmunity, allergy, and transplant rejections. Our research is focused on understanding how T cells make these critical response decisions. We aim to develop a quantitative understanding of how signals from many surface receptors are integrated into a T cell response decision. The post-holder will have primary responsibility of supporting research projects into how T cells recognise antigens and the contribution of co-signalling receptors to this process. The post-holder will be involved in both molecular and cellular work. At a molecular level, the work will involve the expression, purification, and validation of cell surface proteins. At a cellular level, the work will involve preparing antigen-specific human T cells, including isolation of T cells from leukocyte cones, preparation of lentiviral particles and transduction of isolated T cells, followed by their expansion. You should hold a first degree in in biochemistry, biomedical sciences, or related field. The post-holder should have previous laboratory experience with culture of mammalian cells and elements of protein production (e.g. molecular cloning, transfection, cell culture, and/or protein purification). You should be able to learn techniques from laboratory members, follow and adapt protocols as well as select appropriate experimental methodologies. Excellent communication skills and ability to work as part of a team are essential. The post is fixed-term for 2 years and is available from January 2026. If you are interested in this position, and have the skills and experience we are looking for, please apply below. You will be required to upload a CV and supporting statement as part of your online application. The closing date for applications is midday on Monday 8 December 2025. Interviews will be held as soon as possible thereafter. At the Dunn School we are committed to supporting the professional and career development of our postdocs and research staff. To help them thrive and achieve their ambitions, we have created a comprehensive range of opportunities and initiatives designed to provide an exceptional launchpad for their future careers.
