This advert covers two posts: one in the Public Sector Equality Duty Improvement Team and one in the Mainstreaming Operational Delivery Team. Public Sector Equality Duty Improvement Team The PSED Improvement Team leads on the policy framework for building equality into everything that the Scottish Government does, including delivering a programme of improvement to the operation of the PSED in Scotland, which ultimately aims to make life better for people experiencing inequality in Scotland. This team does really varied and interesting policy work. The roles offer excellent opportunities to work with other policy teams across government, with senior leaders and Ministers, and with a range of external stakeholders; and to develop expertise on equality and human rights and the structures and approaches by which those can be advanced. The team currently comprises a Team Leader, 2 Policy and Engagement Managers and a policy official (this role). The team reports to a Unit Head. Key Responsibilities: Contribute to a phased programme of work aimed at improving the effectiveness of the Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED) in Scotland, supporting the development of new regulations and of non-regulatory improvement work, by drafting briefings, policy papers, meeting notes, content for submissions etc. Support the development of proposals to improve the PSED framework in Scotland, considering a range of evidence sources, including international research, and stakeholder evidence. Contribute to the broader range of mainstreaming policy work, including contributing to SG strategies and plans; and leading on correspondence, briefings, PQs, FOI queries etc. related to PSED improvement. Support and maintain good relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including the Equality and Human Rights Commission, SGLD, the Human Rights Division,and Ministerial Private Office. Contribute ideas and approaches to the successful balancing of priorities within the team, including by supporting with project management, business planning, team planning sessions etc. Work closely with Unit colleagues working on PSED accountability and compliance, sharing key lines as needed, and ensuring that correspondence etc. is handled by the right team, with the support and advice of colleagues. Undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade and business need. This team is in a change phase as our Unit settles into a new structure, so the role will evolve; we will ensure that everyone has something to ‘own’, work that develops them; and work that matches their grade. Mainstreaming Operational Delivery Team The Mainstreaming Operational Delivery team help make equality and human rights central to everything the Scottish Government does. Our team provides the tools, guidance, and expertise that enable policy teams across government to create more inclusive and fair policies for everyone in Scotland. Our work is varied and meaningful. From developing a practical online toolkit that simplifies complex mainstreaming processes for Scottish Government and the public sector, to providing hands-on support with Equality Impact Assessments and delivering engaging training that builds confidence and skills across Scottish Government. Working with us, you will collaborate with diverse teams across government, connect with senior leaders and Ministers, and partner with external organisations who share our commitment to equality. You will develop valuable expertise and help create policies that make a real difference in people's lives. The team currently comprises a Team Leader, 4 Mainstreaming Policy Managers and a Policy Official (this role). The team reports to a Unit Head. Key Responsibilities: Providing comprehensive administrative support including: taking minutes; managing documentation through eRDM; maintaining and updating action logs, trackers and spreadsheets to monitor team activities; coordinating team activities; supporting procurement and consultation processes, and ensuring deadlines are tracked. Handling communication with internal and external stakeholders, including responding to routine inquiries, distributing updates, and helping maintain content on internal platforms and knowledge sharing systems like Pathways. Providing administrative support for virtual and in-person events, including setting up MS Teams meetings with breakout rooms and polls. Assisting with the development of presentation materials and resources for training sessions and stakeholder engagement. Supporting the administration of the equality and human rights mainstreaming toolkit project, helping organise resources and track development. Supporting the project to establish Centres of Equality and Human Rights Expertise across SG Developing knowledge of Equality Impact Assessments (EQIAs) with opportunity to review them once experienced in the role.
