A Vacancy at Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
Applicants are invited to join our established Wirral Academic Surgical Programme within the trust. This programme has been highly successful with many fellows obtaining national training numbers after completion of our programme.
These posts are aimed at candidates who have completed foundation training and are at Senior House Officer/Core Trainee level.
We are happy to accept applications from those with greater surgical experience.
Fellows will be enrolled on one of the following academic programmes with tuition fees paid for by the trust.
1. ChM delivered by the University of Edinburgh/RCSEd
2. PG Diploma in Clinical Education
A further MSc in Gastrointestinal and Emergency Surgery is currently being developed with the University of Chester and may be an option for candidates interested in General Surgery.

Contract length: 12 months. These posts are extendable to two years dependent on satisfactory clinical and academic performance
The posts will commence in August 2025
Fellows will be supporting the surgical activity of the Cheshire and Merseyside Surgical Centre (CMSC). This is a multi-million pound new-build facility provided by the Chesire and Merseyside ICS to address the post-Covid backlog of patients requiring surgery.
The CMSC provides surgical capacity for Orthopaedics, General Surgery, Urology and ENT. Fellows will be exposed to the breadth of surgical practice and the post is a fabulous opportunity to gain experience and skills that are essential for core and higher surgical training.
On call duties will include managing elective surgical patients.
Fellows will be supported by RMOs and ANPs, as well as registrar grade clinicians.
Participation in weekly clinical and monthly audit / M&M meetings is expected.

Tutorials and Meetings:
Fellows have protected research time when they are excused from clinical commitments.
The fellows will meet regularly with the programme directors to ensure adequate academic progress is made.
There is a formal BST teaching programme with weekly meetings on a Wednesday lunchtime in the Postgraduate Medical Centre, Arrowe Park Hospital, and attendance at these meetings is expected.
The CMSC is based at the Clatterbridge campus and will have a requirement to attend Arrowe Park Hospital within the structure of our rota.
The Clatterbridge campus has 10 theatres, including 1 robotic theatre and an endoscopy suite where cystoscopy and biopsies are performed.
