Offer description

Summary

**Important notice**

In line with our redeployment policy, we’ll prioritise applications from employees who are under formal notice of redundancy.

Arlington Court is a special place to work with a great team of staff and volunteers. We pride ourselves on exceptional service to all, and go out of our way to make our visitors' day. This is a new role based in the Collections and House team to help lead the volunteer ambition at Arlington to make it ‘diverse, inclusive, exceptional and fun’.

It's an exciting time of change as we look at new ways to fulfil the National Trust's strategy, and we also have an Outdoor Hub coming in spring 2026, which will mean more people than ever can access Arlington's magical estate.

Salary: £26,793 per annum

Contract: Permanent

Hours/working pattern: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week. The role is an operational one and would work one in three weekends.

Accommodation is provided to the postholder for the proper or better performance of their duties in accordance with Trust criteria and HMRC rules. The role does include key representation accommodation of a one bedroom flat situated in the mansion house (and aligns with the one in three weekend rota).

What it's like to work here

It’s a really exciting role to improve the current volunteer experience, recruit new volunteers and look at different ways to open the house and carriage museum. The role would have support from the community, participation and volunteering team and would be line managed by the Property Operations Manager.

Devon is a county of contrasts - from surfing beaches and spectacular cliffs on the north coast to the mellow south Devon countryside, with the wilds of Dartmoor - our North Devon portfolio has it all! With inspiring valleys, sandy beaches, towering cliffs, woodlands and moorland, North Devon was a favourite landscape of the Romantic Poets. It provides all visitors with a huge opportunity to enjoy the outdoors with walks of all shapes and sizes and if you love the outdoors, you’ll love being part of our team who promote our cause and the importance of preserving these special places for our future generations.

What you'll be doing

You'll be working with the Collections and House team and Community, Participation and Volunteering team to provide a great experience for the volunteers in the house and carriage museum, recruit volunteers and look at what benefit we can offer the community surrounding us.

The role would line manage a big proportion of the house and carriage museum volunteers and lead on recruitment.

Who we're looking for

Applications from redeployees are assessed against the minimum criteria for the role. In your application, please provide details of how you meet the minimum criteria below:

1. experience of supporting volunteering in a way that is safe, inclusive and enjoyable
2. able to coach and support colleagues who work with volunteers
3. confident in recognising and sharing the benefits volunteers bring to the organisation
4. ability to ensure volunteers can share their views and feel heard
5. ability to create more chances for people to get involved in ways that suit them
Additional criteria for all other applicants:
6. Enthusiasm about the benefits of volunteering
7. Knowledge about good practice in volunteer management
8. Organisational and planning skills, with good attention to detail
9. A clear, concise and everyday way of writing information
10. Good at listening, talking to and getting on with all kinds of people
11. Comfortable and confident with IT such as emails, spreadsheets, databases
