Specialist Speech and Language Therapist – Children's Service

We are excited to offer this paediatric Specialist Speech and Language Therapist post to an enthusiastic, innovative therapist who is passionate about supporting children's speech, language and communication needs and who is looking to further develop their skills.
Cwm Taf Morgannwg SLT department is a friendly and compassionate team who place a strong commitment to supporting staff wellbeing, supervision and continued professional development.
The Children's SLT team report feeling valued and listened to and support one another. You will be invited to attend regular staff development workshops, children's team meetings and annual training days where you will have the opportunity to develop and share your learning, knowledge and skills. You will have access to a range of clinical specialists for support and advice.
Main duties of the job
You will work alongside other SLTs and SLT Technical Instructors in the children's community clinic team across the Cwm Taf Morgannwg area, providing assessment, diagnosis and support for children with a range of speech and language needs. You will provide clinical support for other members of the SLT team and will be responsible for mentoring newly qualified SLTs.
We are looking for a therapist who works well as part of a team with excellent communication skills and enjoys working collaboratively with others. You will demonstrate the Health Board values of listening, learning and improving, treating everyone with respect and always working together as one team.
Welsh Skills Desirable: This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable. This doesn't mean essential; whilst the candidate doesn't need to have skills in Welsh, we'll consider it an advantage when short‑listing and selecting candidates. This isn't 'fluency', just Speaking & Listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. Level 3 means basic conversations with patients about their everyday health.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* SLT Degree
* HCPC Registration
* Evidence of learning relevant to role.
* Post-Graduate Dysphagia Qualification
Experience
* Relevant post‑grad experience working in range of paediatric settings
* Understanding of collaborative working in clinical and educational settings
* Experience of working with SLT Assistants and Technical Instructors
* Experience of supervising SLT students
* Experience in participating in Quality Improvement projects / departmental audits
* Experience of mentoring newly qualified SLTs
* Experience of managing conflict.
* Experience of managing children with Eating, Drinking and Swallowing Difficulties.
Skills
* Ability to analyse complex assessment information and make specialist clinical decisions
* Good clinical report‑writing skills
* Excellent organisation and time‑management skills.
* Welsh Desirable at Level 3 Speaking/Listening (or 'B1' Level if you've learned Welsh as an adult).
Knowledge
* Knowledge of specific assessment and treatment tools for children and young people with speech and language disorders
* Has a robust working knowledge of the ALN act and its application in SLT
