Astute's Renewables team is partnering with a UK based renewable energy company who specialises in the development, construction and operation of both Commercial and utility scale solar projects, to recruit a Solar Design Engineer focus on designing systems from commercial scale through to large utility scale solar farms.The Solar Design Engineer role comes with a starting salary up to £55k depending on experience plus benefits package including car allowance.If you have experience as a Solar/Electrical Design Engineer producing high quality designs and documentation for various scale Solar projects and are ready for your next career move, we'd love to hear from you, apply today by submitting your CV.Responsibilities and duties of the Solar Design Engineer roleAs a Solar Design Engineer you will:
* Develop AC electrical designs for projects ranging from hundreds of kWs to MWs, ensuring compliance with client, technical, and regulatory requirements.
* Prepare G99 applications and liaise with DNOs to secure connection agreements.
* Produce detailed electrical schematics, layout drawings, and documentation for planning, construction, and O&M manuals using AutoCAD LT.
* Conduct site surveys and develop electrical system designs based on survey findings.
* Collaborate with EPC teams, suppliers, clients, and external consultants to ensure timely, high-quality design submissions and project delivery.
* Undertake protection studies to ensure correct discrimination and safe system operation.
* Provide technical guidance and support to sales and installation teams, including troubleshooting installation issues and optimizing integration into existing or new switchboards.
* Perform additional duties as assigned to support project development and execution
Professional qualifications
We are looking for someone with the following:
* Electrical engineering degree or HND, or equivalent technical qualification.
* Hands-on experience designing AC systems for commercial and ideally utility-scale projects
* Skilled in creating detailed electrical schematics and layout drawings using AutoCAD
* Proficient in Microsoft Office tools for project documentation and reporting
* Solid understanding of UK electrical codes, grid connection protocols, and compliance standards
* Familiarity with integrating battery energy storage systems (Desirable)
* Experience developing control and protection schemes, including export limitation and reverse power protection (Desirable)
