We are seeking an enthusiastic and inspiring part-time Teacher of Psychology to join our thriving English Faculty (0.6 FTE). The successful candidate will be passionate about psychology and its relevance to understanding human behaviour, cognition, and mental health, and committed to delivering high-quality teaching and learning across the AQA A-level Psychology course. The successful candidate must be registered or be eligible to register with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) to teach Psychology.
Main Responsibilities:
● Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging and challenging lessons in Psychology at AQA A-level, developing pupils' critical thinking, research skills, and psychological understanding.
● Support pupils in developing their skills in psychological research methods, statistical analysis, essay writing, and application of psychological theories to real-world contexts.
● Assess, record, and report on the progress and attainment of pupils in accordance with Faculty and school policies.
● Contribute to the continued development of schemes of work, resources, and teaching
strategies within the Faculty.
● Maintain high expectations for pupil achievement and behaviour, fostering a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
● Participate fully in departmental and Faculty meetings, collaborative planning, and professional development opportunities.
● Contribute to the wider life of the school through involvement in enrichment activities, wellbeing initiatives, and other activities.
● Engage in continual professional reflection to enhance teaching practice and support
departmental improvement.
Ideal Candidate:
● A good honours degree in Psychology or a closely related discipline.
● Recognised teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE or equivalent).
● Current registration with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) to teach
Psychology.
● Proven experience of teaching Psychology to examination level at a secondary school.
● Experience of teaching AQA A-level Psychology.
● Strong subject knowledge across core areas of psychology, including social, cognitive, biological, developmental, and psychopathology, with an understanding of current
curriculum developments.
● Evidence of delivering consistently high-quality teaching and learning.
