We are recruiting for a Behaviour Mentor to join a welcoming primary school in Newport with a dedicated provision for pupils with additional needs. You’ll work 1:1 with a Key Stage 1 child, supporting their learning, confidence, and emotional wellbeing every day.

The Role
As a Behaviour Mentor, you will provide consistent and compassionate support throughout the school day. Your role is all about building trust, promoting positive behaviour, and helping the child engage with learning in a safe and structured way.
Your key responsibilities will include:
* Offering one-to-one support in lessons, breaktimes, and transitions
* Building a strong, supportive relationship with the pupil
* Using positive behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques
* Supporting both academic and emotional development
* Following guidance from teachers, the SENCO, and external specialists
* Contributing to a calm, inclusive school environment

Who We’re Looking For
We want to hear from people with a caring nature and a commitment to making a difference. You might have experience in:
* Education or childcare
* Youth work or coaching
* Care or support roles
* Or simply life experience that has prepared you to support children with patience and understanding
You should be:
* Calm, reliable, and empathetic
* Able to build strong relationships with children and staff
* Confident in using positive behaviour strategies
* A good communicator who works well in a team
* Aware of the importance of safeguarding and inclusion
You don’t need to be a qualified teacher or teaching assistant—your mindset, compassion, and commitment are what matter most. Full training and ongoing support will be provided.

* Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am–3:30pm (term-time only)
* Pay: £13.75 per hour (paid weekly via agency)
* Contract: Temporary, with the possibility of becoming permanent
