Location: High Wycombe
Overview
Join our Street Wardens Team and make a difference in the community!
Are you enthusiastic, self-motivated, and passionate about making a difference in your community? We have an exciting opportunity for you to join our Street Wardens Team. By working with us, you are part of something bigger. From supporting residents who are at the heart of what we do, to shaping our county for now and future generations.
This is a career graded role, we are looking to appoint at Grade 3 £29,444 per annum, however upon completion of the relevant competencies there may be a potential to progress to Grade 4.
We are seeking to recruit a Street Warden to cover High Wycombe, although the team can occasionally be required to work in other locations throughout Buckinghamshire.
About us
Buckinghamshire Council is a relatively new organisation that combines the strengths and expertise of the previous five councils in the county to create positive change for local people, communities, and businesses. We are firmly focused on the future and have made a clear commitment to serve residents better and to provide stronger representation for Buckinghamshire, both locally and nationally.
As a member of our Anti-social Behaviour (ASB) Team, you'll be working in Community Safety. Our team, formed in June 2019, has been making a positive impact in the Wycombe area and has since expanded to cover Aylesbury. We are a friendly and close-knit team, well-integrated into a network of partners and Council departments, working together to address crime, ASB, and safeguarding issues in town centres.
Why Join Us?
You will join a supportive team and gain fantastic exposure within the Public Sector environment. Additionally, you will enjoy a range of benefits, including a very competitive employer pension contribution, a great work life balance, generous annual leave allowance, and discounts on a variety of services and restaurants.
About the role
As a Street Warden, you'll work in the community on a daily basis, acting as an ambassador for the Council. Using your presence and communication skills, you'll help the public and resolve issues within the town centre.
Our Street Wardens provide a professional and effective service, working in partnership with colleagues from the Local Authority, Police, local communities, and other partners to deter crime and tackle anti-social behaviour by using appropriate enforcement tools and powers.
The majority of each shift will be spent completing high visibility uniformed foot patrols and regularly engaging with local communities, partner agencies and business communities to make the area safer. The patrols will be completed with a colleague, partner agency or single crewed. You will need to be proactive, and alert, have excellent communication skills, enjoy meeting people, and relish working outdoors.
The role involves a balanced approach providing support and signposting to members of the Community and also using enforcement measures where appropriate, including the issuing of Fixed Penalty Notices for breaches of any Public Space Protection Orders.
Fixed
As a ‘fixed’ worker, you’ll spend most of your time in the same location, which will likely be a fixed office or location where your role is performed. Typically, you’ll be based in the same location as the rest of your team, because you provide a particular service from that fixed location or need access to information there. You will be working from Aylesbury occasionally and also locations in other areas across the county if required.
About you
We welcome applications from people who can demonstrate good customer service and people skills. Strong and confident communication in person and an ability to think on your feet are key attributes.
You will have experience of remaining calm under pressure and have the ability to deal with confrontation and challenging situations.
You will need to be able to compile accurate records, which are passed to relevant agencies and key stakeholders for attention, or to be used for prosecution. You will be required to carry out enforcement duties on a range of anti-social behaviour, including enforcing the Public Spaces Protection Orders and tackling begging and drug/alcohol issues within the town centre.
It is essential that the post holder can demonstrate experience of dealing with conflict and difficult situations. We are seeking an applicant who is willing to work flexible hours, with some evening and weekend shifts required.
