Job Summary
An excellent opportunity for a Clinical Nurse Specialist to join the Liaison Psychiatry Service. A passion for mental health care and the ability to work in a challenging, dynamic environment are required. The role involves acute crisis and liaison assessment in the Emergency Department, supporting general hospital colleagues, providing psychosocial interventions, and teaching staff at all levels. The service runs 07:00–21:00, 7 days a week, with possible evening, weekend and 24‑hour coverage.
Responsibilities
* See, assess and treat patients attending acute services, primarily in the Emergency Department.
* Deliver nursing and psychosocial interventions to individual patients and families.
* Assist and support general hospital colleagues in treatment and care decisions in complex situations.
* Consult, liaise and provide teaching to general hospital staff.
* Work autonomously as a clinical specialist within the general hospital.
* Ensure high‑quality acute assessment and ongoing care for patients with comorbid psychiatric needs.
Qualifications and Experience
* Minimum 2 years post‑registration experience in mental health nursing at Band 6 or above.
* Extensive knowledge of mental health assessment approaches and liaison psychiatry practice.
* Experience working autonomously and therapeutically in residential/community settings.
* Knowledge of key risk factors for self‑harm and suicide, and relevant legislation (Mental Capacity Act, Mental Health Act).
* Recognition of the need for therapeutic work with individuals after self‑harm.
* Registered Mental Nurse (RMN) with a first‑degree or equivalent.
* Teaching and assessing qualification, or equivalent experience.
Desirable
* Experience in acute mental health care settings.
* Skills in complex report writing.
* Recognised qualification in delivering therapeutic interventions.
* Post‑graduate master’s degree or equivalent experience.
