Total Salary: £861.54 per week*.

Job Overview

The post of Centre Manager is residential and includes all meals and accommodation. The Centre Manager is responsible for the smooth running of all aspects of the centre, establishing procedures and solving problems quickly and efficiently. As a residential position, duties will include supervising students on activities, in their residences and during mealtimes and free time.

The Centre Manager must be aware of everything that is happening at the centre and keep communication channels open with the area coordinator(s) and Senior Management team. The Centre Manager will guide and support all staff in implementing the programme and provide the necessary resources to achieve the set objectives laid out in the St Andrew’s College Language Schools Policies and Procedures. The Centre Manager role is a senior management position, and expectations include a demanding workload with continuous monitoring of all programme aspects.


Role of Centre Manager

* Manage the centre to ensure a high‑quality programme is delivered, following guidelines closely.
* Coordinate and support the academic and activities programmes, ensuring they are linked.
* Lead the centre’s Management Team and ensure effective management of all staff.
* Maintain a professional working relationship with staff, clients and venue staff.
* Safeguard the safety and welfare of all employees and students.
* Quality‑assure and ensure customer satisfaction.
* Provide an email address and contact telephone number for three referees who can verify suitability for the post and suitability to work with those aged under 18.
* Participate in a paid induction (£12.30/hour) and start work after induction if requested.
* Know that all staff accrue pro‑rata paid holiday during the period of employment; holiday pay in lieu of untaken holiday is paid at the end of the contract.
* Work may require more than 48 hours per week, evening and weekend work, and staff must attend the induction as an essential part of employment.
* Pay is processed for work undertaken until Sunday 20th July on Friday 25th July and until Sunday 24th August on Friday 29th August, with all holiday pay accrued across the period of employment.
* Company t‑shirts, lanyards and ID badges are provided and must be worn while on duty.
* All staff must be employees of St Andrew’s College Language Schools.


Managing The Product

* Provide good customer service according to customer needs.
* Integrate teaching and activity programmes successfully.
* Coordinate the day‑to‑day running of the centre.
* Maintain high levels of performance.


General Responsibilities

* Ensure the centre office is always functioning and secure.
* Monitor the state of premises, equipment and resources throughout the course.
* Handle arrival of each group or individual, ensure all passengers are accounted for and shown to the correct coach.
* Lead student induction talks, assist in allocating students to accommodation, participate at Certificate Ceremony.
* Ensure all policies for the welfare and protection of children are understood and adhered to by all staff.
* Oversee organisation of packed meals, staffing and special arrangements at the centre.
* Maintain student discipline in residences, liaising with Group Leaders.
* Record all damages and report to Group Leaders and site representatives immediately.
* Monitor students’ attendance and punctuality.
* Operate the office safe and store passports, deposits and other monies as required.
* Control expenditure of allocated budget, manage cash floats following procedures and maintain accurate accounts.
* Provide a daily report to the Operations Manager (or the General Manager/Managing Director if requested).
* Be contactable and available after 6.00 pm for incidents that may arise on campus.
* Finalize accounts and write a centre report within five days after closing; final weeks wage is payable upon receipt of this report.
* Close the centre, pack up and return all stock and unspent centre monies according to guidelines.


Management Of Staff

* Lead and participate in the Staff Induction Day, usually 2–3 days before student arrival.
* Establish and maintain clear lines of management and effective procedures with the centre’s Management Team.
* Maintain open communication with the centre, clients and SAC Management Team and Managing Director; represent St Andrew’s College Language Schools positively.
* Create a positive team atmosphere and motivate the staff effectively.
* Ensure high levels of performance.
* Supervise and support Activities and Excursions Managers, Welfare Coordinator and Activity Leaders according to their duties outlined in the Job Descriptions.
* Oversee implementation of all airport/rail/bus transfers for students and staff, liaising with transport providers.
* Ensure that students are gathered at departure point and that transfers leave on time, checking traffic and flight information as necessary.
* Ensure that a daily log of issues, incidents, actions and work done is kept by the Welfare Coordinator.
* Ensure that each student’s cultural, religious and dietary needs are met and respected.
* Oversee the organisation of excursions, ensuring safety, welfare and information for maximum benefit.
* Oversee implementation and success of activity and excursion programmes, liaising with the Activity/Excursion Manager daily.
* Oversee implementation and success of the academic programme, liaising with the Director of Studies and overseeing the fortnightly Trinity exams.
* Ensure that academic and non‑academic teams work together and programmes are intertwined.
* Carry out meal supervision duties, organise rotas with the management team.
* Maintain a record of all staff working hours.


Welfare (including Accommodation)

* Read and understand the St Andrew’s College Language Schools manual, supervision manual and staff handbook; be conversant with policies for welfare and protection of children.
* Ensure all staff follow Health & Safety policies and monitor implementation.
* Ensure compliance with British Council and English UK guidelines for courses and welfare of staff and students.
* Check all documentation, ensure correct centre administration and submit completed paperwork on time.
* Help students adjust to life in the UK and understand information concerning personal safety, British law and centre rules.
* Ensure each student has an ID card on arrival.
* Monitor staff/student safety and welfare.
* Ensure staff appraisals are carried out and recorded for all centre management staff.
* Manage results of student and Group Leader feedback questionnaires, taking any required action.
* Plan and allocate accommodation for arriving students, organising pre‑arrival and departure checks and room checks.
* Monitor all residential accommodation, ensuring sufficient staff are allocated to maintain a student supervision rota.
* Be responsible for Health and Safety issues in accommodation buildings and undertake fire warden duties when required; ensure emergency procedures are known.
* Ensure accurate rooming lists are kept up to date and fire drills are carried out regularly.
* Liaise with accommodation office/hall staff to ensure housekeeping and maintenance duties are completed to a satisfactory standard.


Client / Group Leader Relations

* Ensure all group leaders and students are aware of their duties and responsibilities and have signed the relevant handbook and Terms and Conditions.
* Hold a Group Leader Meeting upon arrival of every new group, outlining responsibilities, collecting deposits, obtaining contact details and outlining the programme.
* Liaise effectively with the site representative, maintaining SAC’s partnerships with host providers.
* Liaise with Group Leaders daily, informally and at scheduled meetings; be available in the centre office, by phone or radio during specified hours.


Other Duties

* Additional duties as required.


Disclosure Checks

To work with St Andrew’s College Language Schools in the UK, in accordance with British Council accreditation criterion S4, a Disclosure (PVG from Disclosure Scotland / ‘Enhanced’ from Disclosure and Barring Service in England) dated within three months from the start date of employment in 2026 is required. If working abroad, a police check from that country is required. Disclosure checks are payable by the employee (£18 to £67.50*). The company reserves the right to deduct the cost of these checks or carry out checks for employees who do not provide a suitable disclosure, unless otherwise requested by the candidate at acceptance of the job.


Additional Disclosure for International Locations

To work in the US and Ireland, relevant Police Checks are required and payable by the employee. The procedure of receiving a disclosure check usually takes 14 days (specific to the country) and may take up to 18 weeks. If the disclosure is pending at commencement, the employee agrees to comply with St Andrew’s College Language Schools Safeguarding and Recruitment and Selection policies.
