Overview
As a Senior Research Nurse/Research Practitioner you will play an integral role in the delivery of high quality research within oncology. The post holder will work collaboratively with the clinical team and wider multi-disciplinary team in the management of your own caseload. This will involve the identification, recruitment, education and monitoring of patients participating in research along with the timely collation and documentation of accurate data. The role is patient facing and the post holder will be required to work on site within the oncology and early phase research portfolios.
The successful applicant will be responsible for managing a portfolio of complex clinical trials whereby they can make a valued contribution in assessing and managing the care pathways for patients participating in research. The post requires excellent communication skills, a sound understanding of complex scientific protocols, and the ability to work autonomously.
Prior experience of working in research within an NHS setting is essential for this role and experience in oncology or early phase research is highly desirable. A mature attitude, leadership skills and the ability to use initiative are essential attributes for this role.
Responsibilities
* To be proficient in the requirements of data collection, data entry, data queries and safe data storage and to provide advice and support to junior staff
* To supply data as required to sponsor, principal investigator and research teams
* To identify barriers to recruitment and implement agreed action plans as required
* To act as a knowledgeable resource in clinical practice and research, promoting an active and effective research culture
* To manage your own caseload of clinical research study participants working collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary teams
* To support frameworks for research delivery including recruitment to time and target and recruitment of first patient within 30 days of NHS permission
* To use specialised knowledge to take lead of the clinical research area in the absence of the principal investigator and team leader
* To ensure research study specific investigations are undertaken as required by the research protocol, e.g. requisition and organisation of any necessary investigations
* To be proficient in proactively recording and reporting serious adverse events that may occur to the patient and ensuring processes are in place to capture such events
* To be competent in performing clinical tasks required of the protocol, such as vital signs, ECGs and others
* To safely collect, store and transfer biological samples for patients in accordance to study protocol
