The Role
We are looking for someone to join our conservation team, who are responsible for the care of thousands of historic objects within these palaces, many of them on open display in their original setting.
As a key part of this team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the buildings and collections in our care continue to be provided with the highest standards of preventive conservation.
Your work will cover a wide range of activities, with particular responsibility for the planning and co-ordination and delivery of our day-to-day preventive conservation programme.
You will also be providing specialist preventive conservation advice and support across the organisation, carrying out environmental risk management assessments and hands on conservation cleaning of these fragile objects, undertaking condition auditing and working with our stored collections.
You should be able to work at heights and move collection items on a routine basis.
The role will also include additional evening and weekend working at any of our sites to supervise events and activities such as filming and corporate functions.
Although based at Hampton Court, you may be required to travel to assist in the care of our other palaces.
About You
You will have a passion for heritage and a recognised conservation qualification or equivalent. You are passionate about building your knowledge of preventive conservation through practical experience working in a delicate heritage setting.
You will have a keen attention to detail and be happy to work both independently and as part of a busy team.
You will also enjoy working in front of the public and discussing your work with colleagues and visitors alike.
Although not essential, some practical, hands‑on conservation cleaning experience would also be beneficial.
