Director,, Open Pit Iron Ore Operations Location: London
Purpose:
To improve the open pit iron ore mining operations by assisting and guiding local management. Providing all needed information to support the production program of the Iron Ore Mines. Such activities include assessment of the operational practices and definition of best practices which are the most appropriate for each site according to best standards currently used in the mining industry.
Main Accountabilities:
Promote Safety, Health and Environmental standards at each open pit mining operation to make sure they are up to the standard expected from a world class mining operation;
Assist and guide local operations in improving the open pit mining operations, both from a productivity and a cost point of view, compare the mining operations;
Assist in the quality improvements related to the products generated by each site;
Assist in the selection and hiring of key personnel for all operations;
Provide guidance and coaching for senior managers at the sites;
Assist and advise on local open pit mining budgets, accompany capital operating cost expenditure and provide technical approval for capital cost expenditure projects.

Education and experience
Degree in Mine Engineering.
At least 20 years proven experience in open pit iron ore mining operations of which at least 10 in iron ore.
Experience in Africa and other emerging markets.
Strong interpersonal and coaching skills. If possible member of a recognized professional engineers organization.
Essential to have international experience and ability to influence and work across various cultures. Ideally speaks various languages.
