About the Role of Assistant Design Manager
You will support and gradually take ownership of the design coordination process across multiple schemes. Working closely with the Design Manager and project teams, you will help manage design information, coordinate consultants and subcontractors, and ensure that drawings and technical details are delivered accurately and in line with programme requirements. This role offers excellent exposure across all stages of design and construction, with structured support and development.
Responsibilities for Assistant Design Manager:
* Support the Design Manager in coordinating design information across multiple small-scale projects
* Assist in managing consultants, subcontractors, and external designers
* Help track design deliverables and ensure information is issued in line with programme requirements
* Attend design and project coordination meetings, taking minutes and tracking actions
* Assist with reviewing drawings, specifications, and technical submittals
* Support the management of RFIs and design queries through to resolution
* Help maintain document control systems and ensure accurate information flow
* Coordinate with site teams to ensure design information is correctly implemented
* Assist with design change tracking and support resolution of technical issues
* Contribute to design progress reports and project updates
* Support compliance with Building Regulations, planning requirements, and warranty standards
* Assist with handover documentation, including O&M manuals
Requirements for the Assistant Design Manager Role:
* Some experience in construction, design coordination, or a related technical role (placement experience considered)
* Strong interest in developing a career in design management
* Good understanding of construction drawings and basic technical principles

* Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
* Ability to manage multiple smaller projects simultaneously
* Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
* Degree, HNC/HND, or equivalent in Construction, Architecture, Engineering, or related field desirable
* BIM awareness is beneficial but not essential
