Overview
Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner - Bank
An autonomous role to provide a proactive, effective holistic service for neonates on the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU), delivery-suite & postnatal wards. This includes responsibility for the clinical care & management for babies in SCBU & transitional care.
Responsibilities
* Support the ward manager & provide clinical leadership including supervision of staff, audit & research, clinical governance, development of evidence-based guidelines & training/education.
* Role model compassionate & inclusive leadership.
* Identify sick infants who require management on the SCBU including initial assessment, stabilisation, & management, including passive cooling, ventilation, fluids, drug therapy & other treatments. Work closely with Paediatric Consultants & the multidisciplinary team.
* Lead complex situations in the absence of paediatric medical cover, making judgements involving complex facts, analysing and interpreting to monitor & evaluate outcomes in patient-centred care.
* Undertake nurse-led initiatives & procedures according to set protocols & procedures.
* Deliver Advanced Clinical Practice with a high degree of autonomy and complex decision making, underpinned by a Masters Degree encompassing clinical practice, leadership & management, education, and research.
* Use advanced knowledge and skills in Neonatal care to undertake comprehensive clinical assessments, make decisions based on clinical reasoning and initiate, evaluate, and modify a range of interventions.
* Provide professional senior clinical leadership and support within the specialty multi-professional team and across service boundaries.
* Support the wider team to build capacity through work-based and interprofessional learning, acting as a role model, educator, supervisor, coach, and mentor.
* Lead clinical audits and engage in research activity to underpin practice and inform organisational recommendations.
* Provide proactive, effective holistic service for newborn infants on SCBU, delivery-suite and postnatal wards, including responsibility for the clinical care and management for babies in SCBU.
* Assume lead clinical oversight for transitional care babies on the postnatal ward and liaise with the multi-disciplinary team to reduce avoidable admissions to the SCBU.
* Based in the North East of England with facilities including Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Blaydon urgent care centre and Bensham Hospital, Gateshead.
Qualifications
* Masters degree in Advanced Clinical Practice including completion of a non-medical prescribing qualification & independent advanced clinical skills (essential as part of the Tier 1 rota).
