The Court Usher is a pivotal role in court proceedings and a vital link between court users and the Judiciary to ensure the smooth running of hearings.

* You will be an essential first point of contact for all court users.
* There will be regular contact with the judiciary and assistance to administrative staff.
* You will meet members of the public, including vulnerable witnesses, and their legal representatives; prepare court/hearing rooms, complete documentation, and ensure the court runs efficiently.
* You will carry out clerical work to support HMCTS. Ushers work within a team with management support and are responsible for their own time. Standard full-time hours are 37 hours per week. HMCTS welcomes part-time, flexible, and job-sharing patterns, subject to business needs and prior agreement.
* Applications for flexible working will be considered under the MoJ's Flexible Working policy.
* A minimum of 22.5 hours over 3 days (including a Monday) would meet the role's needs.

Regarding Skilled Worker visas, from 22 July 2025, the salary and skills thresholds increased. This role does not meet the criteria for sponsorship unless you have held a Skilled Worker visa since before this date. Please check your eligibility accordingly.

HMCTS offers Hybrid Working arrangements where business needs allow, blending office and remote work. Employees are expected to spend at least 60% of their time in an office, based on local capacity. Specific arrangements will be discussed and reviewed with successful candidates.

Interviews are scheduled for 18th & 19th September 2025. Requests for virtual interviews or alternative dates will be considered only in exceptional circumstances.

Behaviours assessed include communicating and influencing, managing a quality service, and strengths which will be evaluated during the process.

Applicants must ensure all submitted evidence is truthful, including any AI-generated content, as plagiarism is prohibited.

Security checks required: DBS Enhanced.

Key qualities include strong communication skills, ability to multitask, IT proficiency, and professionalism in challenging situations.
