UHDB provides care to a range of patients from multiple specialities across our intensive care and high dependency units. Pharmacists support daily ICU ward rounds and are seen as the experts in medicines management. The pharmacy team have also built strong links with our critical care outreach and acute pain teams and are seen as a key part of the MDT approach to continuing patient care.
Due to maternity leave an opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated pharmacist to join the pharmacy team providing high quality pharmaceutical care to patients in our adult critical care and theatres areas. The post holder would join the existing team acting as the key pharmacy contacts for the business unit, supporting a range of clinical and operational projects, whilst also acting as part of the senior pharmacist team supporting the wider Surgical Division.
This post is based at the Royal Derby site, although there is an expectation that the post holder would work closely with colleagues across UHDB, in developing and delivering pharmacy services.
Main duties of the job
* Work closely with Clinicians and Nursing colleagues to support and promote the safe and effective use of medicines within Critical Care and Theatres as well as ensuring the cost-effective use of resources.
* Work proactively with members of the wider MDT to coordinate safe and effective care to our Critical Care and Theatres patients.
Lead, deliver, and develop pharmacy services to Critical Care and Theatres business units in accordance with national priorities and local objectives.
Support the development of early career and trainee pharmacists.
* You will act as a senior member of the surgical pharmacy team assisting with management of day-to-day operational duties as required.
* You will act as a line manager for designated band 6 or 7 pharmacists.
* Actively participate within regional and national network forums to facilitate harmonisation of practices and share learning.
* The post includes weekend working, participation in the bank holiday rota and on-call.
The Pharmacy Department and Surgical Division are committed to developing the roles of pharmacist prescribers and the successful applicant would be expected to train as a prescriber and actively contribute towards improving the standards of prescribing through participation in these roles.

Person Specification
Education, Training & Qualifications
* Master's degree in pharmacy (or equivalent) plus statutory membership of the GPhC.
* PG Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent experience.
* Membership of other organisations (e.g. Guild of Healthcare Pharmacists, RPSGB, etc.).
Experience
* Significant post-registration hospital practice experience including specialist clinical pharmacy practice.
* Willingness to undertake non-medical prescribing qualification.
* Qualified non-medical prescriber.
Leadership and communication
* Ability to demonstrate effective leadership skills.
* Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication across a range of professional groups.
* Ability to work on own initiative or within a team.
* Training in leadership skills.
* Experience of leading small teams or projects.
Reasoning and influencing skills
* Demonstrates advanced clinical reasoning and judgement.
* Ability to influence decision making across a range of professional groups including at senior levels.
* Experience of project and change management processes.
