Salary: £88.50 – £95 per day (depending on experience)

About the Role
We are looking for an Activity Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEN school in the Southampton area. This unique role involves supporting students with additional needs during off-site activities such as golf, gymnastics, tennis, and bowling, as well as providing assistance during the school day.
You will accompany students on the school minibus, ensuring their safety and wellbeing while helping them engage in activities that promote physical development, confidence, and social skills. If you are sporty, active, and passionate about supporting young people with special educational needs, this role is perfect for you.
About the School
This is a specialist provision for students aged 11–16 who have been excluded or are at risk of exclusion from mainstream education. Many learners have social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs, and some may have additional challenges such as autism or ADHD.
The school focuses on re-engaging students in learning through a personalised curriculum, combining academic subjects with practical and vocational experiences. Staff work collaboratively to create a safe, supportive environment where every student can thrive and develop essential life skills.
Key Responsibilities
Support students during off-site activities and ensure their safety on the school minibus
Encourage participation and engagement in sports and recreational activities
Build positive relationships with students to promote confidence and wellbeing
Assist with behaviour management and maintain a calm, supportive approach
Work closely with teachers and support staff to meet individual needs
Person Specification
Experience working with students with additional needs (essential)
A positive, proactive attitude and ability to engage learners
Sporty or active background is highly desirable
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Willingness to undertake safeguarding and first aid training
