Controls Engineer Position at FMCG Factory in Milton Keynes
My client is looking for a Controls Engineer to join their FMCG factory in Milton Keynes. Ideally, you will be proficient in both Siemens & Allen Bradley PLC's. Programming is not essential but would be extremely beneficial to your application.
Main Purpose of Role
The Controls Engineer is responsible for the programming and development of automation and controls systems to ensure the engineering design is robust and reliable. Acting as the site’s technical lead, the post holder will be well-versed in fault-finding control systems and able to train other engineers in these skills.
Key Accountabilities
1. Organize automation, electrical, and PLC design projects by identifying short-term and long-range issues; preparing timetables, cost estimates, and detailed documentation on project completion
2. Identify opportunities and make recommendations to improve and future-proof plant performance utilizing current control systems
3. Commission newly installed equipment
4. Troubleshoot and analyze electrical, instrumentation, and mechanical equipment and components; recommend practical corrective actions
5. PLC & control stock items – audit, manage, and ensure standardization of components to minimize stock holding and increase spares availability
6. Liaise with and support other LU UK sites as necessary; develop and implement UK-wide standard engineering practices
7. Ensure equipment is operating per specification at the completion of any intervention; minimize downtime and damage to critical plant equipment
8. Carry out all work safely and meet current standards and regulations
9. Create electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic controls and associated drawings using Autocad
10. Ensure backup files are up to date and available to authorized personnel
11. Lead continuous improvement activities within the department; drive development of CI skills within the department and self

* Ability to start and complete projects with limited scope, gaining engineering and production buy-in for sustainable solutions
* Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills
* Experience in designing, programming, and implementing control systems with PLC’s, HMI’s, AC Drives, and Servo Controls
* Strong electrical understanding, including installation work to the latest standards
