Job description
The DESNZ Change & Transformation Directorate is shaping what it means to be a truly mission-driven department, reimagining our operating model, organisational capabilities, systems, processes, and structures to meet both immediate and long-term goals. We ensure that change across the department is coherent and manageable for our workforce, balancing competing demands on resources and enabling senior leaders to make informed decisions.
A key part of this transformation is harnessing the power of digital and AI technologies. While we're at the beginning of this journey, we're ambitious about the impact it can have and how it can supercharge delivery of our mission.
We are looking for individuals who can bridge the gap between business transformation and digital delivery. You'll work closely with organisational leaders to understand their challenges, identify opportunities for digital and AI solutions, and help turn those opportunities into reality.
You don't need to be a technical specialist but you do need to be confident working alongside technical experts across functions. You'll spot where technology can radically improve how we work and then lead the business change needed to make it stick.
You'll be part of the Change & Transformation Directorate, working closely with our partners in Integrated Corporate Services (ICS) Digital. ICS Digital are transforming our digital architecture, developing new tools and approaches, and serve as the expert digital centre for DESNZ.

Person specification
The post holder will:
* Support the design and implementation of digital-enabled change projects, collaborating with stakeholders and digital experts to identify opportunities where digital tools and AI can address business needs.
* Contribute to organisational change initiatives by assisting in the adoption and rollout of digital and AI tools, focusing on delivering measurable improvements in departmental operations.
* Track the benefits of digital projects, helping to ensure both financial and non-financial impacts are captured and reported.
* Champion a digital and AI-enabled culture by promoting best practices, supporting engagement activities with staff, and encouraging the use of digital ways of working.
* Build digital confidence and capability by supporting professional development activities, such as maintaining resources or information for the 'Digital Champions' network.
* Work effectively within a small team, providing support to colleagues and contributing to a positive, collaborative working environment.
Examples of projects (to be agreed once you start in role):
* Oversee the Copilot roll-out for DESNZ and its benefit tracking
* Work with corporate services teams to design and embed new AI-enabled processes and ways of working
* Lead a virtual team to deliver a new grants reporting capability in the short term, and a longer term grants platform strategy
* Develop, with Digital, the 'AI front door' process, including creation of a catalogue and guides for specific AI tools that staff can use
Essential Criteria
* Experience in digital-enabled business transformation
* Confident discussing the capabilities, development paths and underlying architecture of digital and AI tools with technical experts
* Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to translate business needs between technical and non-technical audiences.
* Experienced in collecting, analysing, and presenting data to demonstrate the impact of transformation initiatives.

Office attendance
The Department operates a discretionary hybrid working policy, which provides for a combination of working hours from your place of work and from your home in the UK. The current expectation for staff is to attend the office or non-home based location for 40-60% of the time over the accounting period.
