Job Description

NHS Tayside is seeking to appoint three motivated and dynamic Consultant Ophthalmologists to join our expanding and forward‑thinking Ophthalmology service. These posts offer an excellent opportunity to contribute to the development of a modern, patient‑focused service delivering high‑quality care across the region.


Candidate Interests

We welcome applications from candidates with any ophthalmic subspecialty interest. However, applicants with expertise or a strong interest in Oculoplastics, Primary Care Ophthalmology, Cataracts and Paediatric Ophthalmology are particularly encouraged to apply to support current service priorities.


Department Information

The Department of Ophthalmology, based at Ninewells Hospital, is a well‑established, high‑performing service within both the region and the organisation. As part of a university teaching hospital, the department delivers comprehensive ophthalmology services and supports a wide range of sub‑specialty interests that have achieved both national and international recognition. As a teaching hospital at the forefront of ophthalmic care, the department offers excellent opportunities for academic development, including Quality Improvement (QIP), Health Services Research (HSR), and publication in care delivery and quality‑focused papers. The consultant timetable will include allocated time for virtual pre‑operative “ward rounds” and referral screening, ensuring safe, modern, and efficient patient pathways.


Employment Details

This post is available on a full‑time basis and part‑time applicants will be considered.


Requirements

You must be registered with the General Medical Council and hold a Licence to Practice.

* Applicants must be on the Specialist Register or be within 6 months of the anticipated award of CCT or CESR (CP) at the date of interview for the post.
