The Role
This is a new and pivotal position. As Head of Operations, you’ll oversee the strategic and day-to-day running of our operational functions, enabling our team to thrive and our mission to grow. You’ll lead on areas like finance, HR, legal compliance, health and safety, data management, and internal systems.
You’ll work closely with the Lead Pastors and be part of the Senior Leadership Team, helping to shape direction and deliver strategy across the whole church. You’ll be a key contact for trustees and external partners, and will oversee staff and volunteers in a variety of operational roles.
You’ll also lead and grow our operational culture—bringing clarity, collaboration, and consistency to the way we work.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy & Culture
* Work with the Lead Pastors and Trustees to develop and deliver Hope Street’s operational strategy.
* Shape an organisational culture that reflects our values—faith, humility, creativity, excellence.
* Participate in Senior Leadership Team meetings and church-wide strategic planning.
Finance
* Oversee the church budget in collaboration with Lead Pastors and Trustees.
* Support financial reporting, income forecasting, and year-end processes.
* Ensure compliance with charity finance and reporting requirements.
People & Teams
* Line manage operational staff and support their development.
* Lead recruitment and onboarding processes for staff and volunteers.
* Help create a healthy, supportive team culture with clear accountability.
Compliance & Risk
* Act as Designated Head of Compliance for areas including health and safety, fire safety, data protection (GDPR), and safeguarding support.
* Maintain risk assessments, insurance policies, and other legal requirements.
* Liaise with third-party suppliers, contractors, and advisors.
Systems & Processes
* Oversee and develop church systems and digital tools (e.g. ChurchSuite, GSuite, HR platforms).
* Maintain internal policies and operational procedures.
* Manage scheduling, event logistics, and use of buildings.
Trustees & Governance
* Support the Trustee Board with administrative and strategic input.
* Act as Company Secretary for our registered charity (training and support available).
About You
You don’t need to be a finished product—we’re looking for someone with strong foundations and a desire to grow. You may have experience in church operations, charity leadership, or elsewhere in the nonprofit or business world. Most importantly, you’ll bring clarity, integrity, and servant-hearted leadership to everything you do.
You’ll be someone who:
* Has a growing and active Christian faith.
* Loves building people and systems.
* Is highly organised, detail-oriented, and solutions-focused.
* Can hold both the big picture and the operational nuts and bolts.
* Works well with a team and communicates with clarity.
* Is flexible, resilient, and able to lead through complexity and change.
Desirable Experience
(Not all essential—training and support available)
* Budgeting and financial management (ideally with charity or nonprofit funds).
* HR processes and team leadership.
* Risk and compliance (including Health & Safety, GDPR).
* Strong digital literacy (e.g. ChurchSuite, Google Workspace, finance platforms).
* Charity governance or experience working with Trustees.
* Facilities or building management.
The Details
Location: Wrexham (on-site role, with some flexibility)
Hours: Full-time
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Benefits: Pension contribution, training budget, generous holiday allowance
Start date: Autumn 2025 or earlier by agreement
