About the Role
Due to development of the Commercial Procurement Infrastructure & Operations team, we are recruiting a number of Procurement Specialist roles. Whether you're building on early career experience or already confident in leading strategic sourcing, we value individuals who are driven, enthusiastic, open-minded, and adaptable to different ways of working.
You will be responsible for creating and implementing procurement plans, as well as carrying out sourcing initiatives across a diverse range of spend categories, including innovative mechanical solutions, operational services, and construction (such as Civils, M&E, Fleet, Water Materials, Logistics, and Process Plant). With an annual departmental expenditure exceeding £650 million, this position ensures your impact is recognised and delivers significant value to the organisation.
You’ll work closely with stakeholders to identify opportunities for cost optimisation, improve supplier performance, and ensure procurement strategies align with business outcomes. An ability to work with the business to interpret needs and translate them into effective sourcing solutions is essential, good understanding of project management and stakeholder management skills will also be beneficial.
What We’re Looking For
The various roles we are recruiting for will require candidates with a range of experience levels, but you should have:
1. Ability to manage strategic sourcing events, with support or independently depending on experience level
2. Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills
3. Commercial acumen and understanding of market dynamics
4. A proactive mindset and willingness to challenge the status quo
5. A collaborative working style with a drive for continuous improvement
6. Enthusiasm and adaptability, with an open and positive approach to new ways of working
7. Experience in procurement of operational services or strategic sourcing (desirable)
8. CIPS membership or be working/commit to work towards it (Level 4+ preferred) (desirable)
9. Familiarity with NEC contracts and their application in procurement (desirable)
10. Knowledge of utility regulations and/ or Procurement Act 2023 regulations is beneficial.
What You’ll Be Doing
11. Develop and manage a portfolio of sourcing initiatives
12. Lead tendering processes including contractual and commercial negotiations
13. Build strong relationships with stakeholders and suppliers
14. Deliver procurement strategies that add tangible value
15. Support supplier onboarding and performance management
16. Use procurement systems to ensure transparency and reporting
17. Provide advice and support to help the business understand and deliver its requirements
18. Identify spend trends and ensure sustainable procurement risks are managed across projects
19. Build market knowledge and a strong understanding of business needs and demand profiles
20. Collaborate with supply chain partners to improve practices
