Job Purpose The Joinery Estimator is responsible for producing accurate and commercially competitive estimates for bespoke joinery, fire door packages, and fit-out works across residential, commercial, and public sector projects. The role supports tendering, procurement, and cost control from pre-contract through to final account. Key Responsibilities Estimating & Tendering Prepare detailed cost estimates for bespoke joinery, architectural joinery, fire-rated door sets, and internal fit-out packages Measure and quantify works from drawings, specifications, door schedules, and NBS documents Price joinery elements including doors, frames, ironmongery, panelling, cabinetry, fitted furniture, and specialist finishes Prepare labour build-ups considering workshop manufacture, finishing, delivery, and site installation Obtain and assess supplier and manufacturer quotations for timber, sheet materials, ironmongery, glazing, seals, and fire-rated components Fire Door Packages Price complete fire door packages including doors, frames, ironmongery, seals, glazing, and certification requirements Ensure compliance with relevant standards and third-party certification schemes (e.g. BM TRADA, FIRAS, Certifire ) Allow for testing evidence, installation certification, inspections, and as-built documentation Identify risks associated with fire strategy, tolerances, interfaces, and site conditions Fit-Out & Commercial Works Estimate joinery elements within commercial and residential fit-out projects Coordinate with drawings, RCPs, elevations, and finishes schedules Price variations, design changes, and additional works during live projects Assist with value engineering and alternative compliant solutions Commercial Support Prepare pricing breakdowns, tender summaries, and clarifications Support project managers with cost reporting and procurement information Maintain pricing databases, labour rates, and material benchmarks Review subcontractor and supplier returns for accuracy and compliance Skills & Competencies Strong technical knowledge of bespoke joinery manufacturing and installation Detailed understanding of fire-rated doors, ironmongery, and certification requirements Ability to interpret complex drawings, specifications, and door schedules High level of accuracy, organisation, and attention to detail Commercially aware with strong cost-control instincts Confident communicator with suppliers, manufacturers, and internal teams Experience & Qualifications Proven experience estimating bespoke joinery, fire doors, or fit-out packages Trade background in joinery/carpentry or technical construction background preferred Familiarity with public sector and commercial tendering environments Competent in Excel and estimating/take-off software (e.g. Bluebeam, CostX, MeasureSquare) HNC/HND or equivalent in Construction, Joinery, or Quantity Surveying (desirable) Working Environment Office-based role with regular liaison with workshop and site teams Occasional visits to manufacturing facilities and live sites
