Overview
Senior Care Assistant - Residential at Healthcare Ireland Group. The role is based at Longfield Care Home, located on the outskirts of the village of Eglinton, ten miles from Derry. We support 35 General Nursing residents in the Foyle and Faughan Units, alongside 11 Residential Dementia residents in the Moore Suite. Our Home has recently been recognised with awards at the 2024 Staff Nursing Awards.
The Role
The Senior Care Assistant role is part of a dedicated team essential to the daily operations of the Home. In our Residential Homes and units, this is a leadership role, working closely with the care team to lead on shifts and manage medication. Senior Care Assistants provide high quality care and support to residents in a warm and safe environment, offering leadership, guidance and hands-on assistance to ensure personalised care that meets individual needs and preferences. They also provide emotional support and companionship, fostering meaningful relationships and advocating for residents’ rights and preferences.
Main Responsibilities
* Provide direct care and support to residents with activities of daily living, including personal care and mobility in accordance with individual care plans and resident preferences.
* Observe and monitor the wellbeing of residents, ensuring any unusual physical, mental or emotional occurrences are promptly referred to senior staff or the primary nurse and documented as appropriate.
* Monitor and allocate the work for care assistants.
* Develop and maintain professional relationships with residents, colleagues and visitors, responding promptly and courteously to requests and enquiries.
* Administration and management of medication, medication audits and storage in line with regulatory requirements.
* Undertake any other duties reasonably required by the Home Manager.

Salary
£13.50 per hour
Required Criteria
* Medications experience within care setting
* The Right to Work in the UK
* Educated to a minimum GCSE/NVQ 3 or above (or similar qualification) with a good standard of English
* Previous care experience
Desired Criteria
* Previous experience in a care home setting
* Experience supervising staff
