Are you a dynamic and experienced clinical leader with a passion for education and professional development? We are seeking an exceptional individual to join the Adult Critical Care Transfer Service (ACCTS) Cymru as the Training & Education Lead.

ACCTS Cymru is a nationally commissioned, consultant-led service that provides high-quality inter-hospital transfer and retrieval of critically ill adult patients across Wales. Operating 24/7, ACCTS plays a vital role in ensuring patients receive timely, expert care during transfers between healthcare facilities. The service is delivered by a highly skilled multi-professional team, including Retrieval and Transfer Practitioners (RTPs) and Critical Care Transfer Assistants (CCTAs), and works in close collaboration with NHS Wales organisations and the Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service (EMRTS).

As the Training & Education Lead, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of this essential service. You will lead the strategic direction of training, education, and professional development for all ACCTS clinical staff, ensuring the workforce is equipped with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to deliver exceptional care. This is a unique opportunity to influence national standards, foster innovation, and support the growth of a service that is critical to the resilience and quality of critical care across Wales.

Main duties of the job

Lead the development and implementation of a robust education and training strategy across ACCTS.

Provide expert clinical leadership and professional advice to a multi-disciplinary team.

Coordinate and deliver mandatory, statutory, and specialist training programmes.

Develop and maintain systems to monitor training compliance, effectiveness, and impact.

Represent ACCTS Cymru at national and regional forums, promoting best practice and innovation.

Chair the ACCTS/EMRTS Education and Engagement Group.

Collaborate with universities, professional bodies, and external agencies to enhance learning opportunities.

Manage the training budget and ensure financial governance.

Support workforce planning, role redesign and career development pathways

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria

1. Masters of Science – Critical Care, enhanced or advanced clinical practice
2. PGCE qualification
3. Excellent clinical skills and knowledge of clinical governance systems
4. In-depth knowledge of clinical supervision

Desirable criteria

5. Diploma in Immediate Medical Care - RCSE./Diploma in Retrieval Transfer Medicine

Experience

Essential criteria

6. Significant post registration clinical work experience
7. Experience in working within intensive Care and/or work as part of an Adults Critical Care Transfer Service
8. Completion of STEP competencies 1-4
9. Evidence of previous clinical leadership experience.
10. Ability to work collaboratively with other health professionals across a variety of settings and environments
11. Previous experience in Training, Education or practice development, with evidence of teaching in the retrieval and transfer environment.
12. Experience of joint working in the development of policies and procedures.

13. Effective management of resources and budgets
14. Able to demonstrate situations where effective leadership and management skills have been used.
15. Experience of efficient and effective working with various professional and others across a wide range of services.
