The Role

The Licensed Aircraft Engineer (LAE) will support the Crew Chief and report to the Chief Engineer, ensuring the safe, compliant, and effective delivery of all Part‑145/A8‑23 aircraft maintenance activities across base and detached locations. The role supports operational performance, customer contractual requirements, and provides technical guidance to the engineering team.

The LAE is expected to champion a strong safety‑first culture, promoting SHE and security across all maintenance activities. Flexibility is essential, with a requirement to work additional hours and to deploy on UK and overseas detachments to meet operational demands.


Key Responsibilities

* Operate in accordance with the SHE Technical Standards and apply safe systems of work.
* Maintain the overall performance of the aircraft maintenance operation and its personnel at a relevant station, including safety, quality and regulatory compliance.
* Promote a “Just Culture” regarding safety and the reporting of occurrences within the business.
* Be responsible for the maintenance and certification of aircraft and equipment as allocated under the Crew Chief’s control.
* Support operations and maintenance of aircraft at the main base and at detached locations worldwide.
* Supervise and manage ground movements of assigned aircraft.
* Ensure all technical staff perform duties safely and properly, in accordance with relevant Maintenance Manuals and the Maintenance Organisation Exposition.
* Validate certification of maintenance performed by the team.
* Ensure accurate and timely completion of all aircraft documentation relating to maintenance activities under supervision.
* Coordinate engineering activities, enabling the team to complete tasks to target and within budget.
* Review team performance and provide feedback to the Crew Chief.
* Maintain clean and tidy areas under supervision.
* Evaluate existing standards, practices and procedures for continuous improvement and efficiency.
* Assist the Crew Chief in day‑to‑day functions, deputise in their absence, prioritise tasks and scheduling requirements, and develop the team.
* Maintain company core values at all times and achieve optimal aircraft maintenance performance and excellent customer and stakeholder relations.
* Proactively monitor and maintain authorisations to ensure recency and compliance.
* Perform any other tasks set by the Crew Chief or Chief Engineer that fall within the individual’s capabilities and are required for daily operations.

* Medically fit to perform daily engineering duties, including detachment work.
* Willingness to work shift patterns to suit business needs.
* Security cleared to meet current UK and ITAR requirements.


Educational and Vocational Qualifications

* Previous experience within an aircraft maintenance department, including line, base or workshop environments.
* Unrestricted CAA Part 66 B1 and/or B2 licence with relevant type rating(s) and/or company authorisations.
* Over five years’ experience within an aircraft maintenance environment.
* Good knowledge of regulatory requirements related to aircraft maintenance.
* Ability to work and deliver to deadlines.
* Strong communication, team building and partnership skills with stakeholders.
* Ability to motivate people and influence change in line with company values.
* Experience with continuous improvement projects (preferred evidence).
