About the business unit

We help conceive, drive, and implement transport solutions for cities, regions, and asset owners/operators around the globe. From preparing the business case and advising on related issues to delivering the completed infrastructure and helping maintain it, our planning, engineering, environmental and management skills cover the whole project cycle. We play a major role in developing and delivering the Global Transport Sector Strategy.


About the role

Our specialist aviation team is based in London, UK, and delivers major airport planning and development projects globally, working with our regional offices. We are seeking a Technical Director who is a specialist in Airport Capacity Analysis. The successful candidate will be recognised in the industry as a technical expert in their specialist field. The candidate will be part of a globally respected and diverse team of airport planners, airfield engineers, and forecast, capacity and business analysts.


Key responsibilities

* Technical Excellence
o Lead capacity work on major airport development programmes for significant airport owners and operators.
o Be recognised by clients and within the aviation industry as a technical specialist with world class capacity expertise.
o Train others in this specialist field, nurturing junior team members and helping them develop airport capacity capabilities.
o Advance capacity expertise across all airport facilities and systems including operational research, data analysis, capacity planning, and simulation modelling.
o Optimise capacity at airports by understanding and applying new technologies.
* Business Development
o Seek and pursue new business opportunities to grow airport capacity planning services.
o Build and maintain relationships with airport operator clients, influencing directors to become their consultant.
o Plan and position for opportunities, converting them into projects with high-quality proposals.
o With clients who commission our capacity services, act as Account Leader / Client Manager.
* Project Delivery
o Provide technical leadership of capacity and simulation modelling for major airport planning and development projects.
o Communicate effectively with client organisations and stakeholders to build confidence in capacity principles.
o Act as Project Director/Principal, coaching and mentoring Project Managers and delivering successful project outcomes.
o Ensure projects are completed on time and on budget with sound governance, quality deliverables, and realization of client benefits.

We are looking for a flexible and motivated professional with experience and a genuine passion for the aviation industry.


Qualifications and experience

* Extensive experience in airport capacity, including work on large scale airport development programmes.
* Numerically fluent, able to understand complex systems and train junior staff in analysis and optimisation.
* Understanding of simulation modelling tools and techniques to train junior modellers and optimise airport facilities and operations.
* Excellent communication skills, able to interact with clients and stakeholders at all levels.
* A degree in mathematics, operational research, air transport management, aeronautical engineering, airport planning, or civil engineering. Candidates with other relevant qualifications may be considered.
* Fluency in English; knowledge of other languages is advantageous.
* Willingness to travel regularly to visit domestic and international clients; overseas work on major programmes is advantageous.
* Proficiency in Microsoft software and experience using simulation modelling software, with ability to manage others to use them.
