Oxleas NHS Trust has awarded a new South West Prison Healthcare contract. We are recruiting compassionate and motivated Medicine Management Pharmacy Technician(s) to join our friendly team at HMP Bristol Pharmacy on the Bank schedule.
Responsibilities
* Provide a medicines management service to the prison(s) on a weekly basis, supported by a prison service pharmacist.
* Administer medicines to offenders against valid prescriptions and promote healthy lifestyles.
* Dispense prescriptions, stock items and supervise assistants in the dispensary.
* Manage stock top‑ups, review expiry dates, maintain storage facilities and report deficiencies to the pharmacist.
* Conduct controlled‑drug stock checks every 3 months and report issues.
* Work towards accreditation as a checking technician and/or medicines administration.
* Ensure high standards in the dispensary and during prison visits, adhering to SOPs.
* Participate in clinical and departmental audits and other tasks requested by the Lead Prison Services Pharmacist.
Person Specification
Education / Qualifications – Essential
* NVQ Level 3 Pharmacy Services or equivalent.
* Registered with the GPhC as a pharmacy technician.
* Evidence of CPD.
Desirable
* Working towards Accredited Checking or MM Technician Certificate.
Experience – Essential
* 2 years’ experience working in a pharmacy.
Desirable Experience
* Previous prison or mental health pharmacy experience.
Skills and Abilities – Essential
* Good knowledge of working within SOPs.
* Able to use computer packages including Pharmacy Manager/ JAC and Microsoft Office.
Desirable Skills
* Understanding of mental illness and substance misuse treatment.
* Initiative to problem‑solve.
Additional Information
All applicants must be willing to undertake National Security Vetting in order to work in a prison setting. Candidates will need to provide proof of right to work, ID, address documentation and, where applicable, police certificates or overseas good‑conduct certificates.
