Role overview
We are seeking a passionate and talented Journalist to join our dynamic team at I Love MCR. In this role, you will be responsible for creating original, compelling and positive content that highlights the vibrant life, culture, and community spirit of Greater Manchester. Your work will contribute to our mission of promoting civic pride, supporting local grassroots initiatives and local events. Whether it’s covering a unique community story or a live event at a local venue, you will be relied upon to be reactive to activations across the city region.
Key responsibilities
* Research, investigate, and write engaging articles covering a wide range of topics, including local events, human-interest stories, community projects, and lifestyle features.
* Research, liaise with partners and copywrite engaging advertorials for approval.
* Bring stories and advertorials to life, repurposed for social media channels.
* Attend local events and activations to capture content, including quotes and social media Stories
* Collaborate with the team to develop content strategies that align with our brand values of positivity, inclusivity, and community.
* Conduct interviews with local figures, community leaders, and residents to gather authentic perspectives.
* Maintain a strong understanding of local issues and trends to produce timely and relevant content.
* Ensure all content adheres to I Love MCR's editorial guidelines and upholds the highest standards of journalism.
* Contribute to the growth and engagement of our online platforms through compelling storytelling.
* Keep up with trends, publish posts, live Stories and videos across social media channels.
Desired skills & experience
* Proven experience in journalism, with a portfolio of published original work.
* Strong writing skills for both articles & social media platforms.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Familiarity with content management systems and social media channels.
* A passion for Manchester and its communities.
* Commitment to upholding ethical journalism standards.
* Ability to take your own photos and video clips
