The REO is an Administrative Section within the University’s Professional Services. The Director of the REO reports to the Registrar and Secretary of the University. The REO supports the Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research) and the Faculty Executive Deans in the development and implementation of the University’s Research Strategy.
Duties of the Role
The Knowledge Exchange Officer will play a vital role in supporting the management of the largest KTP portfolio in the UK (value of over £12m). The KTP team is engaged in every stage of the KTP process, from scoping projects alongside our business development colleagues to leading the process of writing applications, facilitating Associate recruitment and supporting the delivery of successful projects with over 100 academic colleagues and over 12 academic departments across the University.
The KTP team is supported by our colleagues in the Business Engagement Team which comprises business development managers, innovation marketing officers and partnerships managers, ensuring the KTP team is able to redirect support for other funding streams and connect with businesses already working with other areas of the University.
Some of the responsibilities will include:
- Working closely with the KTP team and the wider Business Engagement team to support the effective delivery of KTP activity on behalf of the University.
- Operational and administrative support of the KTP portfolio, including attendance of Local Management Committee (LMC) meetings, KTP Associate drop-in clinics and other events on a regular basis.
- Minute-taking at LMC meetings.
- Active involvement in the recruitment of KTP Associates, including job pack drafting, monitoring and reporting on application progress, arranging and chairing interviews, and providing relevant documentation to HR.
- Assisting in coordination of pipeline projects, including proposal development; project budget costing; using project management systems, grant funding platforms and financial administrative systems, with other teams in the REO.
- Representing the REO / KTP team as required at university, business, community and other events and meetings, including travelling across Essex and into London for face-to-face meetings.

Skills and qualifications required
The successful candidate will be educated to a degree level (or equivalent) and have prior experience of project support and coordination within a busy professional, customer focused office environment.
Experience of taking high quality minutes at meetings, a good level of IT literacy, ability to use all major software packages, and experience of using databases, data manipulation and efficient management and sharing of information also essential for this post, along with experience of working independently, excellent administration and good organisational skills, a proactive approach and ability to use own initiative, and experience of stakeholder relationship management.
