Accountancy Recruit is partnering with an international, large-sized manufacturer with a UK turnover of £60m, based in Bury St Edmunds, to recruit a Financial Controller. In this role, you will report to the Finance Director and manage a team of three accounts staff. The purpose of the role is to oversee all financial aspects of the company (UK & Ireland), ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial and management reporting, and provide financial analysis to support strategy and business growth.
The Financial Controller will lead the development and implementation of financial policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements. This role offers opportunities to develop your professional career, experience, and skills within a successful and ambitious company.
Responsibilities
1. Financial Reporting & Analysis
2. Prepare and present accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with UK GAAP (local reporting) and IFRS (group reporting).
3. Provide insightful financial analysis to support strategic decision-making.
1. Accounting Operations
2. Oversee all operational accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll.
3. Ensure the accuracy and efficiency of accounting processes and systems.
4. Manage the month-end and year-end closing processes.
5. Maintain, develop, and enforce internal controls.
1. Budgeting & Forecasting
2. Develop and maintain financial models for forecasting and budgeting.
3. Lead the annual budgeting process and develop accurate financial forecasts.
4. Monitor budget performance and provide regular variance analysis.
5. Collaborate with department heads to develop and manage departmental budgets.
1. Team Management
2. Lead, mentor, and develop the operational accounting team.
3. Foster a positive and collaborative work environment.
4. Conduct performance reviews and provide ongoing feedback.
1. Financial Systems & Process Improvements
2. Identify, evaluate, and enhance key processes, especially where automation can improve efficiency and accuracy.
3. Implement and manage financial software and tools.
4. Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the finance department.
1. Cash Management
2. Monitor and manage the company's cash flow.
3. Optimize working capital and ensure adequate liquidity.
4. Manage banking relationships.

Requirements & Skills
* Fully Qualified: ICAEW, ACCA, or CIMA
* At least five years of progressive, post-qualification experience, preferably in a commercial/industrial environment
* Strong knowledge of UK GAAP and IFRS
* Advanced Excel skills; proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems
* Proven experience in financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting
* Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with confidence to question and challenge
* Leadership and team management abilities; capable of empowering and motivating others
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Understanding of UK tax legislation

Remuneration & Benefits
* Salary: £55,000 - £65,000 per annum
* 25 days holiday plus bank holidays; additional days accrued with service
