About Camden

Camden is changing on the inside to make life better for everyone. Because we’re not just home to the UK’s fast-growing economy. We’re home to the most important conversations happening today. And we’re making radical social change a reality so that nobody gets left behind.

Responsibilities

As a Credit Control Officer, you will be part of a team managing a large, diverse caseload of debt including Sundry, Commercial Rent, Care Charges, Housing Benefit and Former Tenant arrears. You’ll take a customer focused approach to maximising revenue and collection for the organisation as well as delivering the ambitions set out in our Camden 2025 plan.

You’ll provide a professional and proactive service by responding to a variety of correspondence, taking telephone calls while working with services and colleagues to ensure accurate, effective billing while maximising recovery of debt in a cost‑effective way.

You will identify and take recovery action against individuals, businesses and public bodies all the way through the collection process. This will require you to attend and represent the Council in court both in person and virtually.

This role can be challenging, as you’ll be managing a range of queries relating to billing and taking debt recovery action. However, you’ll be playing a crucial role in supporting the Council in maximising its resources to deliver the best possible outcomes for our residents.

Qualifications & Experience

We’re looking for someone with excellent analytical and literacy, plus written and verbal communication skills, with knowledge of IT applications and software. You’ll be working in a fast‑paced environment, and will have the ability to work flexibly, balancing competing priorities and meeting deadlines. You’ll be able to tactfully deal with a wide range of stakeholders both internally and externally, as well as using problem‑solving skills and initiative to maximise the council’s income through debt recovery.

You will be able to show evidence of recovering debt from individuals, companies as well as public bodies and the different processes, skills and consideration that need to be applied to each.

Experience of recovering Local Authority Debt is preferable and legal debt recovery processes is essential along with a good working knowledge of welfare benefits and relevant debt related points of the Care Act.

More broadly, you’ll take the lead in identifying improvements to processes and systems, while effectively working as a team member to deliver our shared purpose.

Benefits

At Camden you’ll receive a host of benefits. From flexible working to 27 days annual leave (plus bank holidays). We also know that work‑life balance is extremely important so we also offer family leave, loan schemes and access to our incredible staff networks. We also have an incredible pensions scheme.

Visit www.camdenjobs.co.uk/staff-benefits for more details of our excellent benefits scheme.

Inclusion and Belonging

At Camden, we want every colleague to feel they belong and can thrive. We welcome applications from all parts of our community, and particularly encourage people from Black, Asian and Other Ethnic Heritage communities, LGBTQ+ people, disabled and neurodiverse people, survivors of domestic abuse, and those from lower socio‑economic backgrounds or with care experience. We know that different voices and perspectives make us stronger, and we are committed to providing the support, adjustments and flexibility people need to succeed.

Anonymised Application

In keeping with Camden’s commitment to inclusion the recruitment to this role is anonymised and supports the objective of reducing the impact of unconscious bias.
