Overview
Assistant Psychologist (Macmillan) role at NHS – fixed term until October 2026. Employment hosted at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH), joining the Clinical Health Psychology Department to support the psychology service for cancer patients.
Clinical Psychology is valued at QEH. You will be a full member of the department and contribute to developing a strong, focused Clinical Health Psychology team. You will work with clinical psychologists and colleagues in a range of specialties across physical health. Supervision and line management will be provided by a Macmillan clinical psychologist within the department. The post supports psycho-oncology services across three trusts (Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and James Paget University Hospital) to promote equity of access for cancer patients.

Main responsibilities
* Support and enhance the professional psychological care of adults currently or previously under the care of the oncology or palliative care team at QEH.
* Provide psychological screening, assessment, and psychological interventions under the supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist within the Oncology/Palliative Psychological Speciality.
* Assist in clinically related administration, conduct of audits, collection of statistics, and development of audit or research projects, teaching, and project work.

Qualifications
Essential
* An upper second-class honours degree or higher in Psychology that confers GBR
* Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society
Desirable
* Further postgraduate training in research methodology and/or other fields of applied psychology
Experience
Essential
* Experience of working with people with whom Clinical Psychologists regularly work
Desirable
* Experience of working with clients with medical conditions
* Experience of working in multidisciplinary settings
* Experience of applying psychology in different cultural contexts
Skills, abilities and knowledge
* Skills in psychological assessment and intervention methods, often requiring sustained concentration
* Strong communication skills (oral and written) for complex, highly technical, and clinically sensitive information
* Understanding of emotional needs of people with physical health difficulties and ability to apply skills in this context
* Ability to work independently and under supervision, recognizing limits of own ability
Desirable
* Knowledge of the psychological needs of people living with cancer
