Anexciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Yorkshiretrainee paediatrician (ST5 or above) with an interest in leadership andmanagement to join Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, Childrens Hospital asthe Chief Paediatric Registrar.
TheChief Paediatric Registrar role builds on the Royal College of Physicians (RCP)programme already running in the Trust. It will provide higher specialtytrainees with the opportunity to develop valuable skills in leadership andmanagement and gives them 40% protected time to put these skills into practiceby developing initiatives that address local challenges.

This is a fixed-term role for 12 months to commenceSeptember 2024. The role can be undertaken in programme or out of programme(training or experience). Main duties of the job
TheChief Paediatric Registrar will receive support locally in the Trust from amentor/supervisor who is a senior clinical leader. The Chief PaediatricRegistrar will be able to attend a bespoke development programme provided bythe RCP, which runs from September 2026 to June 2027 and comprises five 2-daymodules. With agreement, the Chief Paediatric Registrar will be offered a rangeof formal and informal development in the Trust.
Thispost will be two days leadership and management with the remainder of thesuccessful applicants time being clinical, including contribution to theon-call rota. The Chief Paediatric Registrar post is compatible with all therotations at Leeds Childrens Hospital and adaptation to the rota will occur sothat the trainee is able to have two days of their time dedicated to theirleadership and management role.

TheLeeds Childrens Hospital has an annual budget of £103 million, inpatient bedbase of 286 beds, and delivers 102,000 outpatient appointments and 20,000inpatient and day case episodes. The majority of which is on the Leeds GeneralInfirmary site, however there is a Neonatal unit based on the St JamesHospital site. Person Specification
Is up to date and fit to practice safely and is aware of own training needs At least 4 years experience in Paediatrics by the time of intended start date
* Ability to apply sound clinical knowledge and judgement to problems - ability to prioritise clinical need
* Ability to maximise safety and minimise risk
* Recognition of, and ability to undertake the initial management of, an acutely ill patient
* APLS or EPALS or equivalent must be valid
* Demonstrates understanding of research, including awareness of ethical issues
* Demonstrates understanding of the basic principles of audit, clinical risk management, evidence-based practice, patient safety and clinical quality improvement initiatives
Eligibility, Fitness to practice, and Language Skills
* Be eligible for full registration with, and hold a current licence to practice from, the GMC at intended start date
* Eligibility to work in the UK
* Advanced Paediatric Life Support Certificate from the Resuscitation Council UK or equivalent
Experience
* Is up to date and fit to practice safely and is aware of own training needs
* At least 4 years experience in Paediatrics by the time of intended start date
Qualifications
* Paediatric Speciality trainee doctor ST5 level or above at the time of commencement of post
* Must have completed RCPCH membership exams at the time of application
* Outcome 1 at last ARCP
