NES Fircroft is working with a global engineering company seeking an experienced Principal Structural Engineer to join their team at the Teesside office.
You will be responsible for executing and coordinating structural and civil engineering projects, collaborating with local and international design teams alongside in-house resources. Your role includes overseeing pre-project and project design strategies, focusing on execution, productivity, technical output, resource management, progress tracking, standardization, health and safety, and compliance.
Responsibilities:
* Produce, monitor, and review technically compliant and cost-effective design documentation, including drawings, specifications, schedules, calculations, and manuals, ensuring they meet project requirements, company procedures, statutory obligations, and standards.
* Serve as the technical lead for Civil & Structural aspects across projects, ensuring successful and commercially viable contract execution. This includes monitoring budgets, progress, and managing changes.
* Participate in design and safety reviews, risk assessments, and related activities.
* Complete structural calculations and review others' work, especially advanced calculations and analysis.
* Understand civil design principles and review engineering aspects accordingly.
* Ensure structures are manufactured, tested, and installed per design and operational standards when required.
* Advise clients on construction methodologies and good installation practices following local and international standards.
* Develop and maintain relationships with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors to facilitate successful project execution and future business opportunities.
Experience & Qualifications:
* Degree in engineering or equivalent (HNC/HND considered with relevant experience).
* Membership of a relevant professional institution is preferred.
* Experience in the iron & steel industry is advantageous.
* Previous experience in heavy industry, particularly in civil or structural design engineering.
* Strong understanding of heavy industry turnkey project requirements.
* Proficient in structural design, capable of producing innovative and robust designs suitable for manufacturing and operational environments.
* Ability to perform design calculations using MathCAD or Excel.
* Basic CAD skills, preferably Autodesk; training available based on experience.
* Knowledge of environmental, health & safety regulations and technical standards.
* Experience coordinating large work packages with international design centers and reviewing design concepts.
* Ideally, advanced 3D CAD skills, preferably Autodesk Inventor.
