What you’ll be doing

The Design and Technical teams are involved in all aspects of housing design and innovation, including researching the best materials at the best cost. They handle design across a wide variety of sites, many of which use existing buildings, and solve unique problems while pursuing sustainability, value and compliance with ever‑changing building and environmental legislation.

Team members typically have an architectural or engineering background and gain experience in design and project management. The role reports to the Technical Manager and coordinates external design consultants, obtains building control approvals, discharges planning conditions, secures mains services, provides construction issue drawings for site starts and supports site operations.


Responsibilities

* Obtain technical drawings and approvals for efficient site starts.
* Minimise risk by delivering timely, high‑quality information.
* Brief, manage and drive external consultants in producing agreed production information and schedules.
* Assist in preparing design programmes and present at progression meetings.
* Ensure all statutory enquiries, sewer connections and other legal agreements are submitted and pursued timely.
* Oversee NHBC/Building Regulations applications to approval.
* Ensure working drawings align with the approved planning scheme and satisfy all planning and building control conditions, monitoring and controlling production information with the Commercial Department to maintain cost controls.
* Monitor and control the professional fees budget, updating fee reports monthly.
* Manage Group policy and procedures fully.
* Oversee preparation and approval of brochure plans, conveyance plans and sales area drawings.
* Attend site progress meetings and conduct site inspections.
* Present at meetings for various project stages (land/technical hand‑over, optimisation, progression, technical/sales, budget, etc.).
* Maintain general liaison and coordination between internal and external parties.
* Attend subcontractor interviews and meetings where appropriate.
* Respond to site queries and resolve technical/construction problems.
* Issue drawings and information for construction purposes.


What You’ll Need

To be successful, we are looking for:

* Qualified as a Civil / Building Engineer or holding a construction‑related degree, or have attained an HNC/HND in a built‑environment subject with relevant experience.
* Good technical knowledge of both house and apartment construction.
* A working knowledge of Building Regulations, NHBC, Party Wall Awards and associated legislation.
* The ability to work well with people, with strong communication, meeting and management skills for multidisciplinary teams.
* Proactive problem‑solving skills to address issues quickly and effectively.
* Ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
* A desire to exceed customer expectations.
* Excellent communication at all levels, internally and externally, with meticulous attention to detail.
* Competent IT skills, including AutoCAD and Revit.
