Position: SEN Teacher, paid to scale
Location: An inclusive school for children aged 8-19 with profound autism, non-verbal status and severe learning difficulties (resulting in some challenging behaviours)
Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday 8.30 am – 4.30 pm (plus one Saturday in 7 on a rota basis to support weekend activities)
Salary: Teacher Pay Scale (M1 – M6) equivalent to £31,650 – £43,607


About the school

This inclusive school offers a unique setting where the children live on-site 52 weeks of the year, in a home-based style environment. Many of the learners have experienced mainstream or special school before, and their needs include profound autism, severe learning difficulties, non-verbal communication and associated challenging behaviours. The school’s aim is to provide an enhanced quality of life, combining education and care in a functional setting where every opportunity is seen as a learning moment.

The curriculum is bespoke: we do not teach in traditional classrooms, instead lessons are built around life skills, play and meaningful experiences, alongside satisfying the National Curriculum and the National Minimum Standards for Children’s Homes. Strong interdisciplinary and solution-focused working methods are in place.


Role overview

You will lead the integrated education and care of a small group of four to five children, supported by a dedicated team of staff. Key responsibilities include:

* Planning and delivering the bespoke curriculum across the waking day (education + care)

* Monitoring and developing Education & Care Plans, and ensuring individual outcomes are met

* Overseeing staff rotas and supporting staff development within your group

* Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to engage children with severe learning difficulties and autism, using positive behaviour support techniques and a problem-solving approach

* Understanding and applying the National Curriculum and able to differentiate so your work links to the school’s own curriculum model


About you

To thrive in this role you will bring:

* Experience of working with children who have severe learning difficulties and autism, and associated challenging behaviours

* A positive behaviour support mindset; knowledge of, or willingness to learn, PROACT-SCIPr-UK® or similar evidence-based practice

* A strong understanding of the National Curriculum and how to adapt and differentiate for high-need learners

* Creativity and flexibility in planning engaging, meaningful learning experiences outside traditional classroom settings

* High standards of teaching and learning and the ability to motivate and lead a small team of staff

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
