We are searching for a full time (37.5 hours per week) Band 5Registered Occupational Therapist to join us on Belvedere Ward in Exeter. Belvedere is a 14 bedded unit and the trusts only Dementia assessment unit, we care for and assess patients, usually with moderate to advance dementia, assessing their needs for planning discharge to appropriate on going future care.

This is a rare and exciting opportunity to work within adynamic team in a service that has been rated as Outstanding by the CQC.Working alongside the Nursing Team, and within the MDT, you will ensure thatservice users receive a high standard of person-centred care to enable an enhanced quality of life for all.


Main duties of the job

As a Band 5 Occupational Therapist on our older adult inpatient mental health ward, you will conduct thorough assessments to understand each patients functional and mental health needs, developing tailored interventions that promote independence in daily living and enhance wellbeing. You'll deliver both individual and group therapy sessions, working closely with a multidisciplinary team to support holistic care and smooth discharge planning. Monitoring progress and adapting treatments, you will also provide valuable education and support to patients and their families, helping them on their recovery journey. Accurate record-keeping and contributing to service development are key to this rewarding role where your work truly makes a difference.

Person Specification


Knowledge

* Clear understanding of core OT skills and theory
* Awareness of the implications of long-term institutional care
* Understanding of team dynamics
* Basic knowledge of health legislation and current practice including risk assessment management
* Awareness of legal implications of the Mental Health Health Act and other legal frameworks specific to the setting
* Awareness of sensory work


Experience

* Application of the OT Process
* Use of standardised / functional assessment and activity analysis
* Previous Band 5 post (or training placement equivalent)
* Prior experience of working with complex and vulnerable individuals who live with Dementia


Qualifications

* Bsc Hons Degree in Occupational Therapy or Diploma from COT
* Evidence of Post Graduate Courses


Skills

* Word Processing and internet skills
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Ability to reflect and critically appraise own performance
* Ability to maintain professional boundaries
* Ability to work on own initiative as part of MDT & Occupational Therapy Team
* Training and presentation skills
* Able to participate in physical activities and assist with physical interventions in the management of violence and aggression if required by the service.
