The role: At Simmons & Simmons LLP, our staff and our clients are at the forefront of everything we do. To continue to build on this foundation and to support our successful digital, cloud and agile transformation programmes, we are recruiting a talented and experienced Scrum master who will be responsible for guiding and facilitating our scrum teams in agile practices, directing the focus towards customer outcomes and value delivery, working with stakeholders to drive decision making and in supporting our product and project teams. This role reports to the Head of Infrastructure who is globally accountable for the delivery of Infrastructure, IT Operations and Support services across the firm, the candidate may work within our Infrastructure, Data or Legal Technology teams as business requirements dictate. The successful candidate will act as a servant-leader who coaches and supports agile teams, resolves impediments, facilitates scrum events and contributes to the advancement and improvement of Agile practices within the IT organisation. What will you do: Lead agile teams in using the Scrum framework, associated practices and Agile thinking. Remove impediments and coach the scrum team on removing them, aid the teams by eliminating external blockers and managing internal road blocks through process or workflow improvements. Help the scrum teams achieve higher levels of scrum maturity, communicate effectively, coach the scrum teams in self-organisation, cross functional skill sets and domain knowledge. Support the product owner in refining and grooming the backlog, ensuring that business value is at the forefront of prioritisation decisions and providing education where required. Facilitate and support all scrum events, sprint planning, daily scrums, sprint review and retrospectives, encouraging the team to take ownership for maintaining the scrum board accuracy. Ensure that Scrum is understood and the teams adhere to scrum practices and guidelines. Contribute to the improvement and advancement of agile practices within the organisation, together with the application of the agile toolset (Azure DevOps). Enable scrum teams to achieve high levels of performance by identifying areas of strength and opportunities for improvement and employ appropriate guidance, coaching and development techniques. Create and conduct regular analysis of burn down charts and other portfolio planning tools to understand velocity and delivery. What we are looking for: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent. Minimum of 3 years of Scrum Master experience. At least one Scrum Master certification. (PSM I, CSM, PSM II, CSP or CTC). Must exemplify agile values and principles and be adept at refinement, story splitting, estimation, velocity, retrospection and other scrum techniques. Must be experienced in planning and problem solving with product management and delivery teams. Experience of collecting and using data to drive team improvements using various reporting tools. Open minded and pragmatic, able to identify where techniques from the scrum framework are appropriate based on value, team maturity and organisation. Confident communicator comfortable with delivering formal and informal training. An energetic and proactive approach, identifying and implementing opportunities. Collaborative team player with excellent communication, networking, relationship building and business partnering skills. Culturally adaptive with experience of working within a global organisation. Comfortable dealing with ambiguity. Experience of the services sector culture, ideally within professional or financial services. Career Level: The career level assigned to this role is level 3. The career level framework provides a formal structure for the business services functions at the firm. The framework, which ranges from level 1 to level 7, clearly defines the responsibilities, skills and competencies required at each level.
