Are you ready to advance your engineering career and take on complex, meaningful work? We're looking for an experienced and motivated Senior Civil & Structural Engineer to join our growing Energy business.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to some of the UK's most innovative energy and infrastructure projects - from next-generation nuclear and renewable developments to advanced industrial facilities supporting the UK's Net Zero ambitions.
You'll join a collaborative team of skilled professionals tackling challenging engineering problems with creativity, integrity, and technical excellence. Our work is diverse, impactful, and purpose-driven - offering you the chance to build your expertise, develop your leadership skills, and help deliver sustainable solutions for the future.
What You'll Be Doing
As a Senior Civil & Structural Engineer, you'll play a key role in delivering high-quality engineering solutions across a range of nuclear, renewable, and energy infrastructure projects. You'll contribute throughout the full project lifecycle - from feasibility and concept design through detailed engineering, construction support, and delivery.
Working closely with Principal Engineers, Engineering Managers, and project teams, you'll ensure that designs are safe, compliant, and cost-effective while meeting client requirements and industry standards.
Key responsibilities include
Leading and supporting the development of civil and structural designs across multiple project stages
Preparing and verifying design documentation, specifications, and calculations for safety-critical systems
Producing safety-related deliverables such as Safety Functional Requirements (SFRs), Structural Design Method Statements (SDMSs), and Design Substantiation Reports (DSRs)
Undertaking and reviewing finite element modelling and structural analysis using advanced engineering tools
Developing Interpretive Reports, Basis of Design documents, CDM documentation, and technical reports
Providing technical oversight, checking, and mentoring of junior engineers and design staff
Ensuring designs comply with regulatory, safety, and quality standards, particularly within nuclear and high-hazard environments
Interfacing with clients, regulators, and stakeholders to address technical queries and progress project delivery
Supporting planning, estimation, and risk management activities across projects
Promoting innovation, digital tools, and continuous improvement in engineering processes
About You
We're looking for someone who brings both strong technical expertise and excellent communication skills. You'll be a proactive, solutions-focused engineer who enjoys working in multidisciplinary environments and mentoring others to achieve high performance.
Essential skills and experience:
Degree-qualified in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline (BEng, MEng, BSc, MSc)
Chartered or near-Chartered Engineer status (we'll support you to achieve full registration)
Solid background in civil and structural design within the nuclear, energy, or other highly regulated sectors
Good understanding of nuclear plant systems, structures, and components (or transferable experience from similar environments)
Strong knowledge of engineering principles, design tools, and standards such as ACI, ASCE, and AISC
Experience using finite element analysis software and performing design validation and verification
Knowledge of health and safety legislation, CDM regulations, and best design practices
Familiarity with working in a BIM environment and digital engineering workflows
Strong organisational, leadership, and stakeholder management skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with attention to technical accuracy
Desirable:
Experience with UK Nuclear Licensing and the Generic Design Assessment (GDA) process
Familiarity with small or advanced modular reactor technologies
Experience leading small teams or acting as a checker for technical deliverables
