Band 6 Senior Orthotist
Location: Plymouth
Pay Rate: £27 per hour (Umbrella)
Contract: 3 Months
Hours: 30 – 37.5 hours per week (08:30 – 16:30)
Working Pattern: Monday to Friday
Sanctuary Personnel is recruiting for an experienced Band 6 Senior Orthotist to join a well-established orthotics service in Plymouth. This is an excellent opportunity for an HCPC registered Orthotist seeking locum orthotist jobs with competitive pay, flexible hours, and the chance to work across a diverse clinical caseload.
This role is ideal for candidates with experience in clinical orthotics, prosthetics and orthotics services, and complex patient management, offering exposure to both adult and paediatric orthotic care.
The Role – Senior Orthotist, Plymouth
As a Senior Orthotist, you will manage a varied caseload of patients requiring orthotic assessment, prescription, and treatment, working across clinics, hospitals, and community settings. You will play a key role in delivering evidence-based orthotic care, supporting patient independence, and improving quality of life.
Key Responsibilities
* Assess, plan, and deliver specialist orthotic treatment for adults and children
* Prescribe, design, and adjust orthoses and medical devices to meet complex clinical needs
* Manage a diverse caseload including neurological, musculoskeletal, and paediatric conditions
* Work within multidisciplinary teams (MDTs) across acute and community settings
* Carry out risk assessments, clinical documentation, and outcome evaluations
* Support clinical audits, research, and service improvement initiatives
* Provide clinical leadership, mentoring, and supervision to junior staff and students
* Contribute to orthotics service development in line with national and best practice guidelines
Requirements of the Senior Orthotist
* HCPC registration as an Orthotist (essential)
* Degree in Prosthetics & Orthotics (BSc Hons or equivalent)
* Postgraduate experience within clinical orthotics services
* Experience managing complex orthotic caseloads across multiple conditions
* Strong knowledge of orthotic theory, device prescription, and patient assessment
* Excellent communication, organisational, and clinical decision-making skills
* Ability to work independently and across multiple sites
Desirable Experience
* Experience in mentoring, supervision, or team leadership
* Involvement in clinical audit, research, or service development
* Membership of the British Association of Prosthetists and Orthotists (BAPO)
* Knowledge of quality assurance systems and clinical governance
